@ tsowen Well since you fixed the EV symbol to make it say 3G I finally went to a place where I know I have always dropped to 1x. Well when I was there my TP2 read just "G" not 1x. Not really a bid deal I guess but wanted to bring it to your attention. So I guess at this point I know if it says just "G" for a signal I am really only getting 1x. Any thoughts on this?

seco10, thanks for the input it is greatly appreciated. However I have absolutely no idea what any of that is you posted . I do know it has to do with editing the registry but that is something I have never attempted before. I do have Total Commander installed but I have only used it to change the associations of some of my video files and I was lucky to stumble upon that. I will venture into Total Commander and attempt to find what you have suggested first, then make the changes when I feel comfortable navigating. Hopefully I will not wipe out anythingthing on my phone, but if I do I have everything backed up already. Thanks again.

Well it seems that I didn't give myself enough credit or confidence for all of the past tweaks modifications I have made to my device.

It worked, and it was very straight forward and simple. My battery level now reads in the correct scale. I only had to change:

"BatteryIconLevels"=dword: to 65 (hex) from decimal
"BatteryIconStart"=dword: changed from 1001(dec) to 3e9(hex) on its own.

The other 2 entries didn't need changing. Thanks again for the info, I will now try to complete step 6 from my first post. May I ask where do I install the HTCVolumeControl.dll file? I'm guessing somewhere in the windows folder/directory?

Oh, I see you're learning by doing - fine that it works. Btw. the dword-changes are hex or dec, recommended both in the same code. Ok. You're right, the HTCVolumeControl.dll is to copy into the windows-folder - you rightly told about, that you did backup before. Keep on and enjoy your new htc-owner-feeling.
Greetings from Germany

Yes I placed the "G" into the file so what two do you get 3G and what?

I get the 3G symbol no problems there but when it drops to 1x it just says "G" with the same color and everything as the "3G" symbol just drops the 3. If that makes sense to you? Is that how you made this or should it be actually showing the gray 1x symbol? Was just curious more then anything I kinda like it not showing the dreaded gray 1x symbol.

Re: Custom Taskbar

Ok, first off I am a noob & trying to learn as much as I can about the TP2 & how it works. I have successfully unlocked it & installed Mightyrom. I have installed the latest tsowen taskbar6 but still have not seen my phone change to the 3G symbol. I called VZ wireless due to reading a different thread about 3G vs. 1X & tech support indicated that the VZ 3G is the EV symbol. Is this correct? if the phone is saying I am in a EV status, is that actually 3G? I tried to uninstall the taskbar so I could install the sdkcerts cab but I can not uninstall it. I installed the tapres.192.dll for the 3G symbol & the sdkcerts even though I could not uinstall the task bar & now my EV symbol reverted back to the factory format but all other symbols are still tsowens task bar. Did I do something wrong? Can someone please help? I don't want to do the dreaded "hard reset" to correct this problem.

I dont know if this will help you but isnt Mightyrom 6.5? If so did you make sure you installed the correct taskbar for 6.5? If so then I am not sure installing the tapres.192.dll will help you? I installed that on my 6.1 stock rom from VZW because when I installed tsowentaskbar6v2.1(lite) all I had was the "EV" symbol and never got the "3G" symbol. So again I dont know if this will help with 6.5 rom? If thats indeed what you are running now. All I did was installed sdkcerts (soft resetted) installed tsowentaskbar6v2.1(lite) (for 6.1 rom) (soft resetted) then installed the battery cab for 1% increments. When I did all that I had the "EV" symbol so tsowen made that file (tapres.192.dll) so it would show the "3G" symbol. All I did was dropped that file into the windows directory and replaced the original one. As I said not sure if this will all help you but wanted to atleast try to help. I to am a noobie and learning as I go to all this!

Re: Custom Taskbar

Thanks for the reply but yes I did use taskbar6 WM6.5 version, however I doubt the dll got put in the right place. Where exactly do I go to install it? How can I uninstall everything to start over without hard reset? Is there a way to save all of my settings (i.e. ring tone, setting etc.) without having to reset them after a hard reset? It seemed to be working fine except for not having the 3G symbol until I installed the sdkcert cab & the dll.
