My conundrum

Up until last week I had and was content with a TP. Last week while I was out of town my TP stopped charging and I was forced to go into an independent retailer for sprint and upgrade my phone. I got a Moment.

Going forward, and having done more research, I am not content to stay with the Moment. I am torn on the Hero and a TP2. I am not really considering the EVO due to the size since I am required by my job to have a blackberry on my hip already and I don't want to add a flat panel TV to it. I know that the processor is great and the graphics are great and its what everyone wants... but I'm not everyone. I need something to fit the needs of a TP user that was content with it. The question becomes do I jump on the android bandwagon or do I spend the extra bucks to get the TP2 and stick with what I know...

How much more does the Hero lag with the 2.1 before the root vs the 1.6 os, honestly vs the 2.1 root which I will do once I get it home. Will I be able to run the 2.1 upgrades without a noticible lag issue? For that matter, does the lag issue really even compare to what an old TP would have had anyway? How does it all compare to the moment that I already have(but that no one really supports, seidio for example)?

I really appreciate all your imput. I am not starting this thread for it to become a flame thread. Thanks again

No one has an opinion? Surely someone else has seen both phones and are able to A/B them...

I NEED your help!

Re: My conundrum

I found horrible lag when I had the stock 2.1 on the phone, but once I rooted the lag went away. I love my Hero and was on the fence about whether to buy it or the TP2 as well at first. I feel that I made the right decision for me. Be warned that Android is quite different than WinMo and there really is an adjustment period. For instance you don't have to worry so much about closing programs and such. I have had my hero for more than 6 months and I do not believe that I could go back to WinMo now. Again, that is me and your traction may very. What don't you like about the moment? If it is the operating system than your choice is clear, get the TP2.

Re: My conundrum

Thanks for the replies guys. I really like both phones, for different reasons. I'm not sold either way on one phone vs the other(hero vs tp2). 2 things that bug me about the moment is this squishy keyboard and the lack of a decent holster. Dealbreakers for me together. I like the size of the hero but I like the comfortability of winmo(been using since the 6700). The price is about the same. And while I realize both are yesterdays phones, I would like to get as much life out of them as possible.

I really appreciate all your help!

Re: My conundrum

I have the hero over the evo and I like the hero alot. I could have had the EVO, however chose not to mostly because sprint is penny pinching for extra money, when, not to mention the plan upgrading initially. The hero is just what I needed and I previously had a HTC diamond. You'll not regret it, I promise. The lag is not very noticeable, in fact its much less then any windows mobile phone i've ever owned. I would imagine if you want a very quick, simply blazing fast phone then the EVO is probably the right phone due to the processor. However, if you'd like a phone that is capable of just about everything the EVO is and size is an issue as it is for me, the HTC hero is awesome. Just get it, don't look back. None the less, if you don't like it you can return it with the 30 day return policy.

Moved to Phone Comparison

I have had all the phones you mentioned. Out of the Hero, Moment or TP2 I would choose Hero since that is exactly what I did. I still have the others, but quite honestly haven't used them in some time (months and months). I am using an Evo now, but if the Evo had not come out I would without a doubt still be using my Hero. With the 2.1 Custom ROMs available, Fresh was my choice, it is a great phone and does everything my TP ever did. In fact after using my Hero I couldn't handle going back to my TP2 for numerous reasons (which of course are all my opinions on what I want my phone to do). I know Darren liked his Moment over the Hero, I am the exact opposite. The only thing I found wonderful about the Moment was the screen. The screen can only take you so far though. It can't hurt to get the Hero and try it out and see what you think. You can even upgrade to a TP2 if you very badly want WM and buy a Hero online for $150-200 bucks or so in great to perfect condition. I don't know how much the TP2's are in store for upgrade, I bought mine online, but if it is as expensive as it was at one point I would look elsewhere for purchasing options. Best of luck.

Re: My conundrum

I never had a moment or hero, but I had the tp and tp2. I liked my tp2 but since I have gone to android, I dont think I will go back. The tp2 was a great phone but there were a lot of limitations (the chefs are great for cooking up roms but i am overly picky about my phones). I would have gotten a hero a long time ago but the hardware to me seemed outdated. But for you it is kind of puzzling, if you were comfortable with the tp the tp2 might be a good fit for you. You wont be losing the wm or qwerty keypad. But if you want to try to stay with android def go hero. Both are pretty decent phones.
