Re: Turn our 800w's into Treo Pros?
see imo the 800w is a little to thin, dont get me wrong i like the thinness but sometimes when i am one handed txting i feel if it is going to slip rite out of my hand.
plus why would u not want a smiling face keyboard? it makes me smile every time i look at my keys, lol. the keys also look like the centro keys which were a bit small for my sausage links. i am inpressed with the 800w style, but i guess to each his own. |

Re: Turn our 800w's into Treo Pros?
I just got back from an event where Palm showed off the Treo Pro. I got to play with it for all of 2 minutes. That was enough time to compare to my Treo 800 which I had in my pocket .
It's basically the same device, with the obvious differences. There is nothing revolutionary here.... except: the battery. They put a 1500 battery in something that is thinner than the 800! That is worth a switch to me anyday. My only complaint with the 800 is the fact that they put a Centro battery in it (all be it much, much more efficient than my 700 ever was). They made the battery thinner and larger to accommodate a thinner form factor... finally a company gets it!!! So there is one major downside for me on this phone. They back cover is glossy black plastic. If you are any type of normal Smartphone user, be prepared for lots of scratches in the first week. This is where the 800 has an edge with the rubberized backing. The rep from Palm said they will have a "version" of this phone for Sprint and Verizon eventually, but it probably will not be the Treo Pro. This phone was intended to be unlocked only. Stay tuned! I doubt you would be able to refit the 800 to this casing... I would just hold out for the version coming to carriers. The battery and flush screen will be worth the wait. |

That's probably what I will do... I really want the flush screen, but I hope the back is not shiny. Thanks for all the responses.

Re: Turn our 800w's into Treo Pros?
I could see Verizon going with this, since they are not taking the 800w, but it wouldn't make sense for Sprint to do so. The only major difference, other than looks with the Pro, is standalone GPS, bigger battery, and 3.5mm headphone jack. Other than that, I think they're both the same. I would have to think that Sprint won't release any updates on new Treos until next year, maybe a Treo 900w (slimmer, standalone GPS, 240x320 VGA screen, bigger battery, BT 2.1, MicroUSb 3.5mm headphone adapter support, etc.).

Re: Turn our 800w's into Treo Pros?
It does looks like a pretty significant update. I have had the 800 for about a month and the Pro has enough advantages that i would switch as soon as I could. I can see why Verizon preferred the Pro. For Sprint it probably depends how many 800s Sprint ordered or committed to and if they can negotiate an equivalent price that Verizon will get. Sprint would be at a disadvantage if Verizon has the Pro and Sprint only has the 800.
As with the other person who tried it I think the battery is enough to make me switch. I tried the keys on a demo Pro model and typing was much better than my girlfriend's Centro and I have big hands. |

Palm says 800 has standalone. Maybe they have standalone the new Pro model and mixed up their statements between the Pro and the 800? I sent Palm a note asking. |
