Re: Just got my 800w/problems already

this all sounds great

now i just gotta convince myself that buying this now wont be pointless after just upgrading to the mogul with an extended contract this past december

paying 400 again is tough to swallow...but with that many programs running at once, and the lag of the mogul being gone, id be happy....plus my mogul keys are sticking. not sure if it has to do with the custom rom or the mogul, either way, this weekends gonna be full of comparing for me

I've had the same "sticking" keys problem with my Mogul. I think it has something to do with the newest ROMs that are out there. I can't wait to get rid of that thing - it's been nothing but problems since the beginning.

Re: Just got my 800w/problems already

After playing with it for 2 days now I have some new thoughts. I was using an HTC Touch before. The 800w is just as fast if not faster even with it's slower processor. I had 72mb of free RAM at boot up and with no programs loaded I am at about 69mb. I had 160mb of storage available. The screen resolution makes the text much crisper than the Mogul or Touch and I love it. I can put the text size smaller and it is less strain on my eyes because the text is clear. Bluetooth is working great. As good as the Touch. The only problem is no Voice Command over Bluetooth like the Touch (this is a Palm issue and not Windows Mobile). This keyboard is excellent! Much better than the 700wx and much much better than the Centro. The Wifi is quick and easy. Having all of these buttons to customize makes me not miss my Touch at all. I am bummed that I had to purchase new adapters and cables but I much prefer the new microUSB to the old Palm connector. Battery life is terrible, but someone will come out with an extended battery soon. EVDO Rev A is much faster on this than my Touch, maybe because of the smaller screen I don't know. Volume is about the same a s the 700wx. The camera is better but could have been 3MP instead of 2MP.

My biggest complaint is the lack of soft reset. I will try Memmaid and see if it works. Screen doesn't seem as bright as the 700wx but it is definately crisper. The only thing I miss about my Touch is the screen brightness however there are too many pros with the new Treo 800w that I won't be going back to my Touch.

I am using the Jawbone 2 headset and it works flawlessly. I wish Palm would have added the auto answer feature for headsets that HTC does, but you can turn the Jawbone on to auto answer. You just have to turn that feature on every time you use it.

This size is awesome. It coulnd't be any smaller and be functional. They could have made it thinner but it would have been harder to hold. I really think the size is just right. I would recommend this to anyone with a Touch or Mogul. The Diamond is having alot of problems and even though it has a nicer screen I just prefer having a qwerty keyboard. I always have my laptop with me if I really want to do some major websurfing.

Oh, I don't care for the Palm texting software, but it is what it is. Good Luck!

How long is battery life? Do you have WiFi and GPS off or on? Is the latest version of IE included

My battery life is about the same as my Touch with the extended battery. Wifi off and Gps on intermittently. Yes IE is included.

Re: Just got my 800w/problems already

k, sorry if im making a ridiculous comment here

for the soft reset, is it possible to just...hold down the End button? like, for the Mogul itll turn it to airplane mode or whatever, but can you dedicate a button that soft resets? or like i said, just hold down the End and see if that will soft reset (again, im sure its been tried, but figured id ask...seems kinda ridiculous to deal with)

also, ive decided i will be picking up a treo 800w

now its up to stupid Albany, NY to actually have ANY around ...theirs a store at the mall that had TWO. One display, one for sale tomorrow at 10. Theirs no WAY im not gonna get screwed outta that one im sure, so i'll be making many calls in the next day or two im sure.

thanks for all the updates guys, its definitely making my choice easier....here's to not being disappointed..

Is their a ROM thats proven to have GPS and 6.1,but NOT the sticky-keys? i gotta sell this thing for a couple hundred towards the treo, and i wont be able to with explaining how it takes 30seconds to type "Hey" and not "Hhhhhheeeyyy" and then deleting/repeating

Tell me it isn't so. This was the reason I didn't stick with the 700wx. No VC over bluetooth just stinks. I thought they would have fixed this issue this time around.

Re: Just got my 800w/problems already

when i hold down the end button, it shows the sprint screen and says goodbye but it does not turn off. only turns off cellular service. pushing and holding the button again prompts a similar screen that says welcome...as for the reset, ive installed spb mobile shell 2.1. it works extremely well for me and looks really good, granted none of the "cool" wm7 or diamond themes work for it yet but spb does include an option to soft reset in settings..the only thing that i could see be a problem is the battery life..so far its not too good. i got exceptional battery life from my mogul. it would last at least twice as much as the palm..but we shall see in the days to come

Re: Just got my 800w/problems already

did you just say "exceptional" "battery" and "mogul" in the same sentence?

i gotta be seeing things

dont get me wrong, its not TERRIBLE, but its the most inconsistant battery life ive had so far i think. One day it seems to last me all day and most of the night, other days itll last me 4-6 hours. And i know use of your phone will obviously bring down your battery, but yeesh

thanks for checking that out about the End Call though, and good to know about mobileshell, that'll be a definite it seems then.....

and i believe my hunt begins tomorrow, as long as my money's right....im looking at selling my mogul for 2-250 and paying 350-400 for the treo...i just re-up'ed my contract this past december, so waiting on a renewal is pretty pointless. This seems to be a phone that could last me the rest of the summer and winter...unless something mind-blowing gets dropped on us in December. The diamond doesnt do much for me, and i dont see sprint releasing a phone with a vagina attached soooo, id prolly stick with the 800w for a while. Especially if its running as smooth as everyones saying
