Example of an AR app running on Android which requires a compass.

As for an FM radio, it consumes less power than streaming and allows easier access to local stations. An integrated FM tuner also keeps me from having to carry another device when I travel to international conferences where translations are broadcast locally over low power FM. Also useful for TMC traffic info in countries where free broadcasts are available.
Actually, neither of those examples are using a compass. They are both using GPS and the devices accelerometer to sense motion. As of right now the only phone with a compass is the iPhone 3GS.

With a GPS you should have no need for a compass. But to each his own.

The G1 definitely has a compass and street view on it is really cool.

Lol, go watch the videos again, and read the blurb about the Layers tech. They are both NOT using a compass but are using the accelerometer and the gps to enable a compass LIKE function called compass mode. There are NO phones in the world but the iPhone that have a built in compass (actually the N97 does also but we aren't interested in Nokia here).

That is a pretty ignorant statement that it is THE ONLY phone in the world that has a compass. Do a search for the G1 and magnetometer (which is an electronic compass) You can safely assume that the Hero and Magic didnt remove this feature either.

This is actually incorrect. In order to judge direction with GPS you need movement. Therefore a magnetometer could have some decent uses. But like you said to each his own.

I've been friendly and polite, but you really have no idea what you're talking about. If you want to continue to dig yourself into a whole, then by all means continue, but I can guarantee you that both of those do rely on a compass.

Re: Toshiba TG01 Makes FCC .. as CDMA..

Maybe the TG01 is missing video drivers..

Either that or it comes preinstalled with that virus like what happened in Europe's TG01 >.>

Yeh I'm being a bit mean..but I kinda felt like the TG01 was a "sample" or rough draft rather then a production device ...

Oh and on your list you are missing Wimax/LTE chip...and OLED screen (maybe even with solar power charging but thats asking too much probably)

and there was 1 other feature but cannot get it off the top off my head :/

Personally though I kinda miss the Irda port :/...just to turn on and off my TV...sure thats a bit silly but still :/

Re: Toshiba TG01 Makes FCC .. as CDMA..

Japan's version of TG01 has it's own trick up their sleeve. An accessory gives the TG01 a super sensitive motion sensor applied with a virtual world equals.. Hmmm looks like AR using a compass.
Check the video here.
