Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 next month?

I think MS needs to get rid of the number designations... It just really reiterates the perception that MS has fallen behind in the OS race.

I know it is not really reality but the perception of a 6.5 is that MS has gone through 6+ major OS revisions... and is still behind.

If the past is any indication of the future, I don't think we should expect anything earth-shattering.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 next month?

im very ho-hum about 6.5, i think it will be another wm5-wm6 tweak it a little debacle and people wont be happy. Woohoo a crappy 6 on 6 browser that is still inept- tried it on custom ROMs not impressed to use it as a main browser still.

MS needs to kick it up big time this year because the Palm Pre is the buzz word right now and MS could lose a big chunk of marketshare to Palm once they get a CDMA and GSM Pre out there mid year. That is what a smartphone Os should be.

Microsoft will manage. Their products arent exactly aimed towards attracting users. They rely on word-of-mouth and the Mere-Exposure Effect

And it works.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 next month?

Looking forward to seeing what WM 6.5 has in store for us. Not sure we will see any major innovations. They will save all of the good stuff for WM 7.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 next month?

I think wm6.5 will make better use of the .net framework, and improve the UI. I dont expect anything new like malware protection or something, know what i mean? Heck, maybe 6.5 just simply improves active sync.

I doubt they'd go through the effort of releasing a whole new OS for an activesync issue that can be fixed through MS updates.

I'm expecting for it to have some noteworthy improvements and new features. Otherwise, they're just wasting both our time and their time.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 next month?

imma laugh when 6.5 rolls out and its going to be exactly the same except under the hood changes.

its gonna be like the 5.0-6.0 transition, everyone thought there was going to be some major overhaul as far as looks go, even from 6.0 to 6.1 some thought. and look, its all still the same crap.

im not expecting any visual changes with 6.5
and by the time 7.0 comes out, android and alternate os's will have taken a larger market share.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 next month?

WM is like an gas-guzzling SUV in the world of hybrids and battery-driven autos. It's old, tired, and stale. I'm still using WM5 on my 700wx and have had zero reason to upgrade to 6 because there is just no distinct advantage to upgrading. I've held off on getting a new phone (e.g, Touch Pro, etc.) because outside of getting a bigger screen I'd still be using WM. And I'm not gonna upgrade to a new phone just to get a "newer" version of something that does essentially the same thing that the old version does.

late,
Coz
