Re: Steve's Imagio Manila ROM v1.2

Steve - here is something to think about. Have you considered leaving out Cookies Home Tab & CHT editor. I know everyone uses it (i love it). But it is one of those apps that gets frequently updated. CHT is going 1.8 today. And then the editor will get a bunch of 1.8's, 1.8.1, 1.8.2.

Of course - it is your Rom so do whatever you want. Just thought I would mention the possibility of having it "un-cooked" keeping with the idea - "B.Y.O.C." (bring your own cabs) and build it the way you want it.

thanks.

***EDIT*** According to CHT (after looking into it a little more) you can install the new version over the top of the version in the rom. So may be no big deal. You probably new that already though.

I did know this but I am glad you found it also. v2 ROMs will have the latest software.

1) A delete button on the manila mail view.
2) MAP with Google or Bing from contacts. (I have seen this in the Full Deck or Drellisdee ROM)
3) Contacts are slow. It takes ages to navigate to the notes field and then a 15 second lock up to get out of Contacts.

Everything else including battery life is great considering that the Imagio is slow device.

PS. I guess VZW Navigator doesnt work on an unlocked machine. Says error finding GPS. I un-installed it. GPS works so well with Bing and Google Maps I dont need it.
I have never used VZ Nav with any ROM I have worked with. In my humble opinion its shit, compared to whats out there for free. Bing has made major inroads, and obviously Google Maps is king.

I will begin to look at the issues you have brought up.

I had no idea Bing had turn by turn navigation /guidance and had improved the GPS so much. Unless you have an Android phone Google Maps doesn't give directions but with the unlocked Imagio and your ROM, Bing navigated so accurately with voice commands that I thought my old Garmin was talking. Great job Steve.

Re: Steve's Imagio Manila ROM v1.2

All,

I am going to give you a little teaser ROM that will let you see some of the new enhancements I am planning for v2. Please bear in mind this is just a test ROM, and that any and all could change when v2 is released. This is a 23569 ROM, so I am sorry if I am leaving the 21904 folks out of the fun.

New in this ROM is as follows:

1) 21874 XIP instead of original 21849 XIP. This should help memory mgmt and overall performance.
2) Updated core components to most recent available.
3) Sense 2013.2227 instead of 2012.1225. This updated Sense has allowed me to separate and not build in certain Sense components that no one uses.
4) Updated bells and whistles where applicable.

I would be interested in getting some initial feedback, if you are so inclined to help. The link is as follows:

http://www.4shared.com/file/no9Qdztm/23569_v2_Test.html

I have also put up a poll on the topic of cabs and the functionality that is built into the ROMs. I hope you all will give me your thoughts and vote. Of course if you feel you need to expand on the answer please feel free to PM me with your comments.

Steve

When v5 of Bing came out I took it on a very extended test for over 3 weeks, seeing if I could stump it. I had iGo 8 running on another device while Bing was running on my Imagio, to see if there were any major issues.

I was pleasantly surprised that Bing actually did a very good job of stay accurate. One thing I dont like is the voices MS is using. They need to be crisper and clearer for this to be a real product.

The accuracy is really nothing I did. It is a product of the updated GPS drivers, along with some updated middleware that seems to be doing the trick. In v2 we have more updated components, so I am anxious to see if the accuracy stays as good. This is the kind of stuff people need to test to ensure I am making this the best ROM it can be.

Steve

Re: Steve's Imagio Manila ROM v1.2

Steve - are you pretty certain that you will use .2013 for version 2? if so - there is a certain mod I use that is not compatible. No big deal. But if so I will probably uninstall now so I can get used to not using it (it is just a visual mod so no big deal).

thanks for all your hard work. Wish I had time to dl the trial version. But not yet.

Which mod are you using that doesn't work with 2013?

First let me say - I absolutely did not mention the incompatibility in an effort to dissuade Steve from using .2013. I am all for whatever makes the ROM better.

I am using the GTX theme. I haven't personally tried it with .2013 - only read reports from other GTX'ers that it was not compatible with .2013. Of course - for right now - it is not compatible with CHT 1.8 either. SO I have been trying to wait patiently (1 entire day) to see if they (the GTX team) are going to release the update for CHT.

Then Steve has to make matters worse (lol) by tempting me with this test version. Dang it! Needless to say I am in turmoil. So far I have held steady - but I think I am going to dl Steve's test ROM right now.

Here is the link for GTX if you (or others) are unfamiliar...

Ok cool, I was just curious. I have been running 2013 for a while now and haven't run into any compatibility issues and would be willing to test your mod. It sounds like you have it figured out though
