Best GPS Primer options.

I have read 100 posts on many diffrent threads, yet I'm still unable to find the best option. Many people claim certain methoda re best then 2 posts later say it dosent work.
I am looking for a "primer" from Startup/Soft reset, one that automatically primes the gps and all one has to do is open thier fav GPS nav software and get locks through there.

Currently I use GPS viewer, which works great!
However, I have to manually start up the application, select the port, click open gps, click warm start and wait for a lock on ( only takes 30secs-3mins normally ), then open my GPS nav software. This works 100% of the time, but is rather slow. I'm not lazy, however having a ppc device that works how you want it to is much more satisfiable.

I have tried GPStoday. Now, this is almost exactly what I am looking for. After a reset GPStoday automatically starts up, and all I have to do us start up my GPS Nav software and in about 60 seconds I have a lock.
However.... you can only do this once! when you close your GPS software, GPStoday stays running and keeps a lock on sats, which is cool, but once the phones shuts down in 30 seconds, or you turn off the screen, GPStoday then loses it lock after a couple of mins and GPS is then dead. GPS viewer cant even find the GPS on COM4 port! You have to soft reset the phone to get it to work again.

Has anyone else had this problem and maybe have a solution?

Now I'm not posting a " my GPS dont work!" It works awesome!
I am just looking for a better/faster/easier way to prime my GPS and keep it primed.

Any suggestions are more then welcome!! Thanks!

i use astrogpslauncher, which works pretty well and doesn't require the hassles some other priming tools do. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364199

Re: Best GPS Primer options.

I found this searching the web called GPS2Blue and it works perfect for me. Also, it has an on/off toggle for GPS.

Re: Best GPS Primer options.

NONE !!!

You might need an alternative Virtual COM Port tool like GPSGate for some Navigation apps.

I have not primed with any ROM. Great tools for monitoring the progress rather than sitting blindly while waiting which makes it feel like forever. But I don;t find it make it lock faster or lock period.

Re: Best GPS Primer options.

i can see where your coming from and i went on the same path as you but for the extra couple of minutes to be able to use a great software like tomtom or igo which need to be primed it is worth it. i also noticed the issues gpstoday has with gps viewer now all i use is gps viewer and i get a lock in under 30 seconds.

Yep I have found using Astrolauncher with TomTom gives me the fastest lock times of any of the options, usually like 20 seconds to 1.5 minutes.

There is a file that has a tomtom and a iguidence shortcut with it, then just hit the shortcut and it will open tomtom and connect automatically......fast.. for me at least, or just run astro then open any other gps app and it should start automatically too.

Re: Best GPS Primer options.

Just soft reset your phone before you intend to use GPS. Its a very simple solution, and only takes 1-2 extra mins. Make sure you are by a window, in your car, or outside and it should lock within 30 seconds. Just use google maps - "Use GPS". You have to make sure you are in a good GPS area as well. For instance, even my car's gps goes out by my parents' house, so of course the phone's GPS isnt going to work. But both work fine and very quickly in my driveway.

This is no longer the case with the leaked rom.

After installing the complete rom (radio, os, customizations), my gps is finally working nearly flawlessly and the longest I've had to wait for a lock was about 40 seconds this morning (and gpstoday auto update was disabled overnight).

Just to clarify, I am no longer having issues with the GPS shutting down when the phone goes to sleep with the new rom.

Re: Best GPS Primer options.

I like gpstest because it is small, and there are no screens to click through.
