if you had google maps open as well, and you were watching it, how could you possibly know what direction your satellites are in?

I don't think your following directions, honestly.

if you've *never* been able to acquire a lock, it sounds like you may be having an installation or hardware issue... because almost everyone has been able to acquire a lock at some point, all be it inconsistent.
