Get CONSISTENT GPS Locks with MotorMethod(tm)
I like most others on this forum have been getting VERY sketchy GPS results with the new touch ROMS, about 48 hours ago I stumbled upon a method for getting CONSISTENT Locks. I didn't want to post right away, saying I've found the holy grail of GPS locks only to have it not stand up to testing, like so many others have done. Thusly, I've been testing for about two days, and have yet to have a failure, with all locks happening in < 1 minute in approximatley 11 tests. Now, i've decided to share my Motor Method for consistent GPS locks, in hopes that I can get some community feedback on it.
* All testing done outside, or in a vehicle that was outside, except 2 successful "warm starts" inside my home, where I've never been able to get any connection. My System: *sprint touch *JD's gpsTEST rom *3.37 radio Note: I do have quickGPS installed and "valid" though it was also installed and "valid" when I wasn't getting consistent locks 1) open gpsVIEWER 2) com 4 > open GPS > cold start *without closing gpsviewer, and without waiting for gpsViewer to find a lock* 3) open google maps (stock settings) > use gps at this point, you should get a lock in under a minute, google maps can be closed, and another GPS program opened. Once your end gps program is open (garmin for example) gpsViewer can also be closed. I've tested successfully in a variety of circumstances. With > 10 hours between GPS uses, with less the 10 minutes between uses, after soft resets, etc. please test, and post your results... Thanks! |

not to doubt you but isnt this the basic method that everyone is doing with very poor results

Gps viewer always seems to find sats, but it seems that the standby issue comes into play. It works great after soft reset.

Re: Get CONSISTENT GPS Locks with MotorMethod(tm)
i think the main difference is hitting the "cold start" button, and most people either wait and watch for gpsviewer to connect or get pissed that gpsviewer isn't connecting, close it, and open google maps.
hit the cold start button. don't worry about waiting for gpsviewer to connect, open google maps right away without closing gpsviewer... I believe it is a bit different then what i've seen posted, and i believe its different enough to actually work... give it a try before you poo poo it, i'm connecting like a mad man, no soft resetting required. |

Yes, it doesn't work for me. I get satellites, but they're all "north" and never acquire a lock no matter what I try.

Re: Get CONSISTENT GPS Locks with MotorMethod(tm)
if you had google maps open as well, and you were watching it, how could you possibly know what direction your satellites are in?
I don't think your following directions, honestly. if you've *never* been able to acquire a lock, it sounds like you may be having an installation or hardware issue... because almost everyone has been able to acquire a lock at some point, all be it inconsistent. |
Re: Get CONSISTENT GPS Locks with MotorMethod(tm)
I actually am, I opened GPSViewer, then cold start, or even regular start. Then I wait awhile... Google Maps times out and says cannot find satellites, so I switch back to GPSViewer and there are a few satellites "North", but red and not locked. I've used the program before for my external GPS and that works just fine... using internal though, no locks. And yes, I can see all directions, in an open area outside. Does the same no matter what radio I try, 3.35 or 3.37.

Re: Get CONSISTENT GPS Locks with MotorMethod(tm)
like I said, if you've *never* been able to acquire a lock with the internal gps antenna, I think you might have a hardware issue, ESPECIALLY If you're getting a lock with a BT puck.
