Re: Verizon VX6900 - Altell ROM

Hello all!, my first post here,

Just wondering what exact steps to follow to get GPS and Rev A working and fix any ohter issues that may result afterwards (like based on what i read so far, it seems sending some messages out u need ARCsoft software here).

I am pretty noob to messing with cell phones. But if you give me some instructions, ill follow them exactly .

I see alot of peeps are doing the alltel, is this the prefered ROM with least issues? and then do you need to install a cooked up Mobile 6.1 as someone suggested from another board?

Re: Verizon VX6900 - Altell ROM

No matter what you do, you have to flash the altell ROM first to upgrade your radio to support GPS, Rev A etc. If you stop there, you'll have a nice, stable, factory-like phone. Nothing fancy, but it works. Instructions for that upgrade are here... be sure you don't screw up step 8:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24979

From that point, you can go on and flash most of the custom ROMs that people have cooked up (as long as they aren't carrier specific). These give you all kinds of customizations, tweaks, enhancements, etc. However they also introduce risk (each time you flash your phone is another opportunity to brick it) and sometimes stability issues (OS/application crashes). It's a matter of preference how far you want to go...

Re: Verizon VX6900 - Altell ROM

ok, i got a problem and any help would be appreciated!
i flashed to the revA alltel rom with no hassles thanks to the great guide posted (had to call vzw like the rest of you)! i immediately checked out pie speeds and they were RIDICULOUSLY quick! i mean really quick=) ! impressed!
so then, i flashed to jaks rom and started to load my apps on there and do a speed test through oprea 9.5! i load it up and go to cnet speed test and every thing loaded like it was back onto regular evdo revB?!?!? came back with speeds up 150 kBs!!!! WTF!
then i flashed back to the alltel rom thinking it would make a differece, but speeds were still reallly slow! google maps cannot even find me through GPS!??!!
any suggestions would be appreciated!!! =)

yikes--so it was jaks GPStest2.1 which bricked you? Were you able to get GPS running on the alltel rom before going to GPStest2.1?

Verizon didn't give you any trouble with the brick eh?

Re: Verizon VX6900 - Altell ROM

wow soccer -- seems like you've been a lot more successful than others.

If I wanted to start with the alltel ROM, which version would you suggest (from what I gather there are several alltel's floating around now... at least one of them should only be applied to true alltel phones) ? Thx

i might have worded that wrong i actually started before alltel rom.. the one with gps and rev a .. but thats the one that i was most scared about.. that is the only alltel rom i have loaded.. ill give u a list of the roms i have tried in a sec.. most of these custom roms have no problem being loaded just make sure they dont change ur radio and read the directions at least one time through before even starting to do it.. if u follow word from word.. u prob wont have any problems

i havent even got around to flashing to jd's new lite rom cause im messin wit ubuntu hardy heron right now..
