Re: Anyone heard any news on the Imageon Drivers issue??
I would venture to guess that a proper way to face the situation is to write a [profesisonal] hand written letter to whomever could be of use to us. The first problem would be finding the right person to write to and being sure that it would actually get there. My father is the type of classical thought individual which turns to "writing corporate" to solve customer(service) issues. He gets everything he wants by showing a caliber of coothe unknown by the email age. This is just my suggestion.

My main issues with the touch are the sd card corruption problem and the video problem. I get ticked at how much better sling looks on the 755p as opposed to the 6800 & 6900(although for the record they dont look bad, just not as smooth). I would say it even looked better on the wx screen, but you'd know I was lying because that was the ultimate downfall of the wx for me. the 240x240 screen edit: went out to dinner tonite and ran some speed races. I found that if there were no apps loaded the 700wx was a hair quicker about 70% of the time. the big issue came if there were 3 to 4 apps loaded. Thats when the 700wx lag became apparant and the Touch wins, presumably due to more memory. So therefore I must redact my earlier comments about the touch being faster except when running alot of apps. I suppose I must now qualify that the Touch is the most consistantly fast regardless of # of apps running etc. Last edited by VW; 04-11-2008 at 08:07 PM. |

Back to topic, I actually found a phone number of HTC-America tech support today and gave them a ring. I was fully expecting to wind up talking to a moron who reads their responses off a script, but to my complete surprise the guy I talked to was actually quite knowledgeable and helpful. I told him that the reason for my call was to report a few bugs and ask for the status of a patch. The first thing he said was, "let me guess - you're having the problem where the device won't come out of standby mode?" I laughed and said, "oh you must be aware of that one then?" and he said they were all very aware of it. I also brought up the SD card corruption bug (which happens to me once every couple of days), as well as another odd bug where if you have security enabled, the Touch will return back to the home screen after turning the screen off rather than remaining on the last app you had open. He was also aware of the SD corruption bug, but not the security bug. I asked about the possibility of new drivers. He said he was aware of the issues, but couldn't say for certain whether (or when) new drivers were coming. He did confirm that a patch was coming soon (probably 1 - 2 months) but didn't know if new video drivers were a part of that patch. He seemed sincere and was appreciative of me reporting these issues and asked me to call back if I had any additional bugs I wanted to report. So bottom line is, he certainly didn't break any earth-shattering news to any of us here - but what intrigued me was that he was at least aware of some of the high-profile bugs we're dealing with and seemed interested in helping as best he could. Hopefully that means we at least have a chance of getting some fixes. He was a Ty-Tyn 2 owner himself and seems to be something of a tech geek like the rest of us. This is a far cry from the usual fiasco you go through calling Sprint tech support. |

Re: Anyone heard any news on the Imageon Drivers issue??
I find my 700wx a lot more staple and handles multitasking much better then my Touch. Just this week, I was streaming audio from the web and using bluetooth headphones, I got a phone call and the Touch had a heart attack. I couldn't even answer the phone. My Treo does this no sweat. I constantly stream audio to the Treo and have no issues switching tasks and cruising the net at the same time. Yes it's a little slower while multitasking but no where near as bad as the Touch. The Touch loads Google Maps and Live much faster then the Treo. I think the problem with the Touch is how it handles the memory. Seems like HTC figured they didn't need to tune the memory handling process because the Vogue has so much more memory. My Treo is over clocked to 520, and I have to say that they seem equally matched on switching screens but multitasking kills the Touch.
If it wasn't for the size, I'ld ditch the Touch. I really like the Threaded Texting mod I have on the Treo and want it on the Touch, if I could only find a nice stable 6.1 rom for the Touch I'ld be happy. I've tried like 5 or 6 different 6.1 roms and they all lock up. The Touch is my first HTC and it does not impress me, the only plus side to HTC is that their devices are so hackable. I'm eagerly waiting for the Palm 800. |

I have a super strong feeling we are never gonna get these drivers. We will be out dated and forced to get the next gen ppc. one thing is for sure, no more htc for me.

I think that as newer devices come out, the options from those new devices whether they are the Touch or a newer version of the Touch or whatever they may be, someone, somehow, will port the newer options over to work on the Touch. I just think that complaining that by the time the drivers are available then there will be a newer device out is just you being ungrateful of what you have and unappreciative of the master chefs here who will GIVE you those new features from those new phones on your outdated device... I will update my "Out-Dated" device until I end up dropping this one in the toilet just like I did with my old Wizard(T-Mobile MDA). I'm interested to see just how far it can inevitably go. Even when I leave Sprint in a few weeks I am still going to keep my Touch because I want to remain an active member here regardless of my carrier. I have an HTC Nike(Touch Dual if you are not familiar) on AT&T. I have both AT&T and Sprint and I plan on keeping both devices for as long as they will work just to see how far the upgrading will actually go. I know it may take a year or more until the next generation OS and upgraded drivers are available but I am prepared to wait and see because I know what has been done over in the Wizard forum at XDA. Just wait and see... It's going to happen. It may not happen today or tomorrow or even in a couple of months but it WILL HAPPEN. All it takes is patience. I'm running short in that department but I know too that it is only a matter of time. The only question now is how much more time is it going to take?

Re: Anyone heard any news on the Imageon Drivers issue??
Indeed, if I could use my old T-Mobile MDA with Sprint, that's what I'd be using because it played video (i.e. Slingplayer) *much* better than the Mogul or Touch. I have no problem with an outdated PPC. I do have a problem with a botched implementation of a brand new PPC. My Blackberry had a completely working, full GPS out of the box, plenty of memory and it's lightening fast. The only reason I still use the Touch as my main phone is because Slingplayer for Blackberry isn't available yet. But I'm done with HTC. No more flushing my money down that toilet company.
