Re: Anyone heard any news on the Imageon Drivers issue??
Are you sure video drivers are going to fix lag? I suppose they would probably help paint the screen faster, but I'm not sure if that's the complete cause of the lag you're describing.
I used to have the Apache as well, but ended up dumping it in less than a year because I thought it was such a sluggish, unusable pig. Are there newer roms for it now that speed it up?? There must be because I would say my Touch is considerably faster. After dumping my Apache I went to the Treo 700wx which was an order of magnitude faster than the Apache despite having a slower CPU. Sadly, I would say my Touch is no faster/responsive than the 700wx was even though it also has a much faster CPU, more RAM, and is running WM6. (which I presume has had some performance tuning done to it relative to WM5) I'm know this place is full of HTC fans, but in my experience I'd take Palm's "mojo" with software any day over HTC. They really understand how to make WM usable - and performance is a major component of usability. HTC just doesn't get this. (yet) |

Believe it or not htc makes the palm 700wx too.
I feel your pain, but what do you suggest we do about it? |

And NO there are no drivers to speak of at this point. It's basically a wait and see approach. --James |

Re: Anyone heard any news on the Imageon Drivers issue??
Keep in mind when I say "fast", I'm referring to the UI responsiveness: how quickly I can switch between apps, how quickly I can scroll through a list, etc, etc. For those things, the Touch is absolutely NOT faster at all. I've got my Treo 700wx in front of me right now and I'm comparing it to my Touch. Trust me, they're very close. And this is while using SPB Pocket Plus on my Treo. If I disabled that and went to the standard Today screen, it might be even be faster than the Touch.
Now, if you were to use some type of benchmarking software to see how many calculations per second each device could do then I'm sure the Touch would win since it's got a faster proc. But from a UI "quickness" standpoint, they're on par. Given the hardware differences, this is disappointing. Last edited by eagle63; 04-11-2008 at 01:39 PM. |

Re: Anyone heard any news on the Imageon Drivers issue??
I've got a loaded Treo and an almost stock Touch. I'll be doing a hard-reset soon on my Treo and I'll re-test then, but given how close they are now I'm guessing a stock Treo 700wx might edge out the Touch. I owned my Treo for 18 months, so when switching to the Touch I was very aware and sensitive to speed and responsiveness changes relative to what I had been using. I heard many reviews about how fast the Touch was, and maybe that plays a role in my disappointment as I really saw no speed advantage at all after switching. Not to be a Palm snob as I really do like my Touch, but I think most of the people who rave about the Touch's speed came from other HTC devices. (like the Apache) The Treo 700 switchers aren't as impressed.
