I agree but deleting and/or corrupting files on a storage card is a pretty HUGE flaw! I love this phone and hope there is a fix for this problem soon. I'm also thinking about taking my to the store to get it swapped out but I'm afraid it's a problem with all of them.

Agreed - I didn't mean to minimize it, just to say that otherwise I've had very few issues.

On previous devices I'd have at least one serious issue like this and 10 other minor or mid-range problems.

I guess I just have low expectations.

I've had the XV6700, the Mogul and now the Touch and I know what you mean about low expectations. I thought maybe, just maybe that the Touch was void of serious problems for a few days and then the storage card issue happened. Why can't we get a phone that just works?!?!

This sounds like a problem with the phone's cache becoming corrupt. Perhaps a soft-reset flushed the cache, temporarily returning the card display to normal. Perhaps every so often the corrupt cache data also gets written back to the card causing data loss.
I have not made any registry changes at all, only installed apps. So that's not it.

There's also a post about a user having this issue with a stock device.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a real issue with the device

You would think with an issue this serious there would be tons of posts but there aren't. It makes me wonder if there are lots of defective phones but not all have the problem. Just out of curiosity, what's the manufacture date on your Touch? Mine is 10/23/2007.

10/4/07

I wonder how many people with the device really use the SD card. We're all "power users" who use most or all (or more than all ) of the device's functionality. Your standard business user who gets it for e-mail and calendaring might never even pop the card in.

I guess my point is, just because there aren't more reports of this doesn't mean it's not widespread. I'd be curious if anyone can report using the card on a frequent basis *without* seeing this issue.

By the way, I've seen a lot of reports on different boards about "pictures disappearing", or messaging having trouble. Since those items both can store data on the card, I wouldn't be a bit surprised that those problems have the same root cause.

So all we have to do is give our card a blow...nevermind! LOL!

I'll have to try that next time.

Woke up, not working...anyhoo...I hard reset and started from scratch. 3/4 of the way through reloading my apps, I see that half of my folders are missing on my 4gb SD card, and 2/3 of the ones that are left have corrupted names and symbols on them. I tried to open the corrupted folders, but no-go. So I soft reset (with a pit in my stomach), and the card came back after that. I am just waiting for it to happen again, since it from the sounds of it here, it will.
I can confirm this exact behavior - it's happened five times now. I know I have a problem when email won't open...

First time: I found corrupted folders on the card, and couldn't delete them. I finally used Pocket Mechanic to reformat the card.

Since then: When the problem occurs, I delete the Inbox folder on the card, and poutlook starts working again. Downside: The device no longer has the email attachments (the have to be redownloaded).
