Left Channel Sound Not working

Hey -- A while ago i hooked up my HTC Touch headphones and noticed the left channel has stopped working

I thought its the headphones since i've had many break before... but just recently i hooked it up to the car (usb to 2.5mm converter, then a 2.5mm converter to 3.5mm which goes into my aux jack)

And wallah, no left channel

So must be something up with the usb plug on the bottom of my touch.. but i don't know where to look
Can this be a DIY fix? What are my options here?

Re: Left Channel Sound Not working

Have you tried any other headphones with your vouge? I'm wondering if you don't have stereo plugs on all your connections from your vogue to your car radio.

Take a look at all of your plugs and make sure they all have 2 black lines on them for stereo. If they don't then they are mono. Also, make sure they are all pushed together all the way.

Have you had this set up working previously, for both stereo channels? I'm asking because I have a similar car set up:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...352#post387352

And when I simply used the HTCminiUSB to 2.5mm with my L-shaped 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo adaptor, only one channel would work. Just went out to my car and verified, indeed it is the left that fails. The reason for this is that the 2.5mm socket (female) has a 4th connection, for microphone. But the 2.5mm plug (male) has only the 3 connections for stereo. My fix was to pull the plug out about 1/8th inch or so. To keep it in the right spot while driving, I use a little spacer.

Since left also fails with your earphones, it seems there could be some other culprit. And in any case, it's a good idea to make sure your USB socket is clean and free from pocket fuzz. A fellow PPC Geeker had success using compressed air. That's too extreme for my Vogue! I use a small brush that came with my electric razor. It has long soft bristles. Look at the contacts (6 on angled side, 5 on other) using a magnifying lens and bright lighting, to check for wear and/or damage.

Hope something here helps, MrG

Re: Left Channel Sound Not working

Well firstly yeah, it was stereo both on headphones and in car... just out of blue this happened... My guess is usb connector too

I tried compressed air and looked at the connectors... don't see any visible damage or wear

I tried looking to see if the connecters are bent or something... the plastic thing holding the metal connectors broke and came out :O

Still nothing though

I think you found your problem.
You may be able to replace the mini usb connector. If you are under warranty or have insurance it might be time for a replacement.

Don't think it is... the plastic thing broke just now... wasn't broke before, i meddled with it too much i guess -- but pretty weak if you ask me

USB power still hooks up fine, and usb headphones work fine (right channel only)

This should help! I found a great diagram of the mini usb plug that shows what each connection/pin does. Compliments of rstoyguy! Here it is :

Use a magnifying glass and look at those pins closely to see if any are bent or broken. Also you could have something down in there that is bridging the gap between the left and right pins causing a short. Use the diagram to check the pin that matches the channel of audio that is not working. I think you can get and replace those connectors but I've never done one so I'm not sure how hard it is.
