Sometimes I would get a message saying Welcome to America's Roaming Network and sometimes Verizon would tell me my phone was not able to be authenticated. I called Sprint's Advanced Tech Support (ask for 'Aircard' when dialing the CS number) and he had to make changes on the network side to allow me to roam, but we had to switch the phone into Roam Only for him to see which towers were not allowing it (or so he said). It had to be exhibiting the problem at the time (which means you have to call them from a land-line). Whatever he did, it worked and we verified by switching to Sprint Only, Roam Only and Automatic where I could catch both Sprint and Verizon's signals. Both phones have been fine ever since, even after the newest radio upgrade. He warned me that the problem could come back if I traveled to a different area.

On another forum, I have read that you need to have them reset the HLR and reprogram the phone. He didn't reprogram my phone at all and he said that the Home Location Register wouldn't solve this. The problem is actually on Verizon's end (or so he claimed). I've seen that lots of Verizon customers are having to call CS and have their phone re-authenticated after a hard-reset, so perhaps he was telling the truth. (I think I found a post about that on XDA).

PS...he actually referred me to PPCGeeks for helpful hints on common problems! Little did he know that I've been a kitchen user since the early days of the Apache!

PPS...He also claimed that a new upgrade was coming in a few days that would fix the standby missing calls bug, so hopefuly the new official ROM will finally fix it. I have been using S2U2 and setting it to 'blank screen only' as a work around...not as battery friendly, but at least I get my calls!

Anyway, call CS and make sure you get to Advanced Tech Support. The regular folks don't have a clue when it comes to the WM phones.

Re: NEW official Sprint ROM posted on XDA-dev by DCD

Do you guys still have to prime the internal gps before TomTom or other gps software will recognize it?

I never had gps unlocked on my touch before this new rom came out so I am fairly new to gps priming, but am interested to hear what others use or if I am doing something wrong.

So far I have to either use Google maps or MS Live in order to begin detecting satellites, and then I can switch over to TomTom 7... what do you guys do?

Yes. All third party Nav software like Tom Tom, IGO, Garmin, Ect will require you to first primer. You can do this by doing exactly what you already are doing, by priming with GoogleMaps or Live Search since these two programs can open up the GPS port. Once you get satellite locks with GoogleMaps or Live Search then you can start your Tom Tom and navigate.

I personally use a program called GPSToday as my primer, it works very well and I find it the quickest and easiest way to prime the GPS. I have attached it for you and others if you want to give it a try. Hope it works for you as well as it does for me!

Re: NEW official Sprint ROM posted on XDA-dev by DCD

why do people care so much about gps on their phone? What about privacy issues? The government and sprint can track us at all times even when the battery is removed because their is a button battery that keeps those functions powered along with the time and date also. I say until sprint replaces gps with a public transit gps where it tracks public transit so you know when the next bus is and when it is due, then i will get all warm and fuzzy and make sweet sweet gps to my phone....

Based on your argument, we might as well get some use out of it too. It's not fair that only THEY can use our GPS. Besides, assuming what you say is true, I'm awfully boring to track and I'm sure the gov't has something better to do than track an honest taypayer like me.

ever wonder if the govt wants to just track us to play games like in the movie "Rat Race" or maybe they want to track us to issue speeding tickets with out having to have photo radar or a cop with a radar gun.... it puts a gps in the next onboard engine control unit (ECU) or in the nav or both and says ok you went from here to here and the speed limit is 40 mph you did it in x amount of time so you went over the limit by y amount so here is your ticket and it has been charged to your credit card of choice... Thank you speed again...
