Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

Have any of you tried using Sprint Navigation? It is working just fine for me, yet when I try to use google or Bing it will reset or freeze.

I downloaded the 1.11.00 radio and it will still reset. For some strange reason the 1.12.34 radio will not load on my TP.

Anyone else have a problem getting the 1.12.34 radio to work?

My point is there are A-GPS modes where the basic *data* in xtra.bin is downloaded by the system without need for external app like QuickGPS. You can see these modes if you connect your phone to QPST.

So basically QuickGPS can be the trigger for some people while for others the trigger is something else. The root of the problem is likely the data and not the messenger.

I agree if you don't have any xtra.bin files then that method of replacing with an older version won't help you.

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

I am in the same situation traveling in MD, LA and now in Seattle. I am sorry, but can someone help me learn how to flash the radio rom and which one ? I have a Sprint TP original stock ROM. Mine locks, resets, and i cannot update through Quick GPS. No problem for a year. Does updating to the new Sprint Rom help? Thanks.

David

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

Read over this post:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...85#post1290785

If you update to the new Sprint Maintenance Release ROM from 9/25/09 that will automatically upgrade your radio and the GPS problem should go away. Doing it this way though, installs a new OS so you will need to reinstall all your apps, which might not be a big deal if you have good complete backups. Also the new Sprint ROM adds a process that essentially breaks tethering by reseting the tethering registry entries. You'll need to run a .cab to resolve that if you care about tethering.

If you just update the Radio (also in the post referenced above), then that should resolve the problem, while preserving your existing install. You basically do an activesync, then run the .exe in the Radio upgrade package. It'll give you instructions and is relatively easy to do. I haven't run it on an stock locked ROM, but since it originally came from Sprint it'll probably be signed and work fine.

You can also try downloading the older xtra.bin file. Instructions are in the post referenced above.

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

I've havent been able to get my gps to work on my verizon touch pro @ all since moving to mighty6. i used to run stock with llbored's fix and it was very temperamental sometimes taking 5mins to find a lock but after that it worked fine. about a month+ ago i flashed to mightyrom6(love it, no issues so far) and with both googlemaps and bing i am unable to secure a lock @ all. i did NOT install llbored's fix because i believe the rom has it cooked in. i'm using radio 1.03.09v. any ideas?

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

wow, this forum is awesome. i just wish i read this forum before trying to restore from my sprite backup, which of course did not solve the problem.

Will try to upgrade the radio rom and also the xtra.bin file.

just wish i have checked here instead of restoring my sprite back up which did wipe out my old msgs...

also it seems that sprite back up is detecting some sort of registry corruption on my phone. wondering if this whole gps problem is somehow also corrupting the registry??? does anyone know?

Thank you so much!!! I have been fighting with long GPS lock times since I got my replacement/refurb Alltel TP. Thought it was the QuickGPS issue, changed the xtra.bin file...no help. Thought maybe it was because I used an SPB backup from my original phone, but didn't want to hard reset to find out... Just Installed the VZW 1.03.09v radio and am locking on to sattelites just as quick as I was on my original TP...no more waiting 5-10 min for a lock...

Sure wish I knew this a couple of weeks ago when I was in your neck of the woods (Dallas...I'm in Abilene). Kind of a pain when you are lost in Dallas and have to wait 10 mins for the GPS to get a lock....Thanks again.

Well today I tried the QuickGPS again, I guess what ever was causing the problems is gone hopefully. I am now able to use my GPS programs and it does lock on quickly just like it did before this mess. So here's hoping that problem is history... until the next time anyway.

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

Guess this problem is solved for everyone? Seems solved for me also. I finally got radio upgraded to 1.12 and used quickgps after that. No problem with GPS this morning going to work. Seems to maintain lock on satellites slightly better.

Nope, they swapped my phone out last week and I am having the same problem still. I don't care I want a TP2 anyway. They were going to swap out for a TP2 last week but they have been out of stock. My GPS is intermittant, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. They are aware of the problem tho.
