do let the board know your experiences with the pre.
My wife has a Pixi and so I've had a chance to play around with WebOS. I'd prefer her Pixi to my TP at this point..

The guy said he couldn't even send out a replacement TP1 if he wanted to -- it wasn't an option. He ran down the list of phones, but I didn't hear TP2 in the list. There was a pre, blackberry, HTC Snap, and a Treo Pro that I remember. I wonder if they're starting to limit the phones that they're letting out under this deal.

I took the Pre and I'm finally out from under the fat, slow finger of Windows Mobile.
Who did you call? Tech Support?

Yep, I called the regular tech support line from the "Sprint phone numbers FAQ" over at sprintusers.com .

I told the guy I've had the "oil slick" screen replaced once at a store, but it's an hour and a half round trip to the nearest authorized repair center (true statement), and I'd like to do something over the phone if possible.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I just got back from a Sprint repair store. Issues I had were laggy device after the update thingy. I also had that oil slick thing on the screen that comes and goes. One of the service people in the store told me that was cosmetic(whatever). Either way, I was told I should have a replacement phone tomorrow but they didn't tell me what the replacement was gonna be. Either way...... a refurb that works and doesnt' lock up is ok although I wouldn't mind or turn down a TP2.

Dear Valued Sprint Customer:

Thank you for your interest in Sprint's Self-Service Phone Replacement web tool. The web tool was decommissioned on December 11, 2009. Your phone repair needs can now be met through one of the following methods:

All customers can visit a Phone Repair Center to have their handset diagnosed and solution provided. To locate the nearest Sprint Phone Repair Center visit Sprint.com/storelocator and select Phone Repair Center Search.

Corporate-liable customers also have the option of getting phone repair support by contacting Care.

Business Customers can call our Premier Care solutions groups by dialing *2 from your handset or at 800-927-2199.

Business/Government accounts with an assigned representative can contact their respective Dedicated Care Specialist.
---
From a stock finance standpoint this is a good decision. Make it harder to exchange phones, save money. As a TP owner this friggin blows! There is no service center anywhere around me! At all! Like the Sprint website can't find one within 50 miles of me. I live close enough to Idaho Falls you would think there would be one there! I don't like to call in and talk to the sprint people either.

No they are not, end of subject.
They are in fact replacing with either another touch pro, an old blackberry, or the palm pre.

Interesting that so many write with such authority.

I just had my TP1 replaced in a store over the weekend with a NIB TP2.

No TEP or insurance; only standard 1 yr manufacturer warranty. So it still can be done. TP2's are finally arriving in CA stores. Just be patient, polite and assertive. Finding the right person is the key.

I have been having issues for months and in exasperation was about to just switch to the Pre. My tale is sordid and long; if interested look up my prior posts on this thread.

So I wanted to give back a little holiday love to the thread for bolstering my resolve. See you all in the TP2 forums. Need to find a new holster and some tweaks. This phone really is what I expected from the TP1.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Sprint policy is that all TP exchanges are, by default, Priority 4 -- meaning you can swap it for a different REBURB device. After 3 or more exchanges in a six month (or maybe twelve? idk) period, you move up to Priority 5, which is a NIB device.

The TP2 is on both lists: refurb for Priority 4, NIB for Priority 5. But the REFURB TP2's are almost always out of stock at this point. If you are told the TP2 is no longer on the list, it probably means someone looked at their screen and saw "No" beside the TP2 refurb entry. But this can also mean it's just out of stock.

Ignorance and negligence on the part of Sprint employees are the two reasons you might not have luck getting a TP2. Ignorance of what Sprint's policy is supposed to be, or negligence to execute it.

It is also Sprint's policy now to ONLY do exchanges at a store. They want the device to be inspected before they'll send you a replacement. I also suspect an ASC can only do Priority 4 without approval from their SRSS, and that corporate stores don't have such a restriction.
