Re: [new edits]So You Want To Use Your TP/TP2 As A Modem??? Your Main Options...

what to work? yes, I killed guardian, regs stick.

maybe this is the reason I still use GSFinder, it will let me overwrite protected files as long as they aren't in use.

Re: [new edits]So You Want To Use Your TP/TP2 As A Modem??? Your Main Options...

LOL I just posted about this in the new stock ROM thread. I can't keep 'em straight. shaggy, thanks for posting the detailed instructions above (I will thank when I finish this post). I followed yay4juggs' post but I couldn't find cm_guardian in the "services" list like he said, but I did notice that killing the process entirely allows the reg hacks to stick. This is good - so your instructions above mean to create a dummy file with the same name as the original cm_guardian, I presume, then this will work for good, at least between soft resets. Adds quite a bit of work to a new flash, though - I'm still hoping some ROM chef who is still working with the TP1 will create a ROM with this baked right in.

Edit: what happens if you just rename cm_guardian or delete it? Answering myself, I renamed it HTC_CM_Guardian.old and when I soft reset there was my HTC_CM_Guardian.old right alongside a brand-new HTC_CM_Guardian.exe. So looks like dummy file it is.

The harder you push us, the harder we will push back...

yes to overwrite.

FYI I used Resco, which seems to work as well. Following the instructions above, I took the original /Windows/HTC_CM_Guardian.exe file and removed the Read-only bit in properties. Then renamed it HTC_CM_Guardian.oldexe just for kicks. Created a 0 byte file called HTC_CM_Guardian.exe (first created a txt file as noted above and just renamed it after it was created). Copied it to /Windows. Resco throws a warning that I'm about to overwrite a file in the ROM and I might break something. Uh huh. Break this. Anyway, file overwrites. Soft reset, look in processes, no CM_Guardian. Check dotfred processes as a backup, no CM_Guardian. Run the ICS reg file I created. Changes are sticking. Soft reset - changes are still sticking.

If there was ever an argument for a "MEGA-THANKS" button you guys are it.
