1. GPS is already unlocked. You just have to go to Start-Settings-Phone-Services tab, click on Get Settings and turn that ON to enable the GPS. Then use QuickGPS to do an update, then open Google Maps and click menu and Use GPS and it should work.
2. A custom rom will DEFINITELY make your phone faster. It only takes a few minutes to flash a custom rom on your phone, so I suggest just trying them out and see which one you like best.

Thank you once again, GPS now working with 5 satellites lock on inside my house in about 30 seconds.

I'm now off to look at the ROMS and hopefully find a simply "How to" guide.

start here for unlocking http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42503 0.37 os the one you want. here for how to flash http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=43266 . u will need this http://www.cedonulli.org/msr/essenti...05.0.69.44.cab and http://www.cedonulli.org/msr/essentials/sms160.zip they are for your messaging. they are in the 5th post of mightys mighty rom 5 thread and are arcsoft and sms160. u may need a carrier cab found here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=168 . after a flash you should always let customizations run. pull the battery for 3 seconds and hard reset. then you will need to dial #228 and select option one to activate ur phone so data will work. install alltel arcsoft and sms160 . then go to your sms inbox and then menu then pics/video options then servers. select alltel. your port number should say 8080. if you can not send or receive mms messaging change it to 80. for some reason alltel uses 2 different port numbers depending upon your location. if you need to manually set up your data connection the username and password will be your phone number and alltel. a lot of info if you need help holler.

i've been flashing roms on the alltel touch pro since it came out and never had to do half that stuff. I just flash a custom rom and install arcsoft for MMS, if it's not already installed, and everything works perfect.

I did the Juicy ROM from my SD Card and it worked a treat. Thanks for all your help!

I have noticed one thing. Since the upgrade it now doesn't show 1X, EV or what it showed before rA. Any way to get this back?

go to the custom taskbar and read up on how to change the icons.
then change the ra one to ev.
but ra is "evdo rev a"
but if you want ev, then just swap the ra with ev.
then it should only switch to 1x when needed.

My issue is that the ICON, whether it be rA, 1x or EV just doesn't appear other than when I send a sms or make a phone call when the 1x will appear and then disappear.
