Re: Windows Mobile 6.1 / 6.5 / 7 ::UPDATE::

talk about missing the point guys...
What I said before you got personally insulted by a post not aimed at you at all was that the entire WM scheme be it 6.1 and 6.5 is just a repaint job of WM5 with graphic enhancements...
IF that is the future of the WM platform then it's going to be a dead platform!

Rejoice in your new 6.5 slider launcher with notifications...we have had similar types of things for well over a year...just because MS released it doesn't make it better! It's the same old design and navigation structure (today plugs) only this time they scroll up and down...
Honeycomb is nothing more than a start menu where the icons stagger instead of list!

This concepts time has long p*****!
IF MS wants to stay on top it had better come up with something better thann 6.5!

Most of you who like it like it for no other reason than you have something new! Hey look what I have that I'm not supposed to have...
And you don't care how well it really works! Just look at how many people with TPs are running the ported topaz TF3D2 despite the fact the clock changes an hour off if you even breath on it! But it's the FUTURE of TF3D and you have to have it right?

Then fact that I have verizon service means nothing...I can change the pagepool and remove the dialer no sweat...
In fact I also have a sprint diamond and tried 6.5 on it as well...
10 restarts a day and it was soon gone!

You can be the first kid on the block and try to make all the excuses you want for 6.5 being buggy but the truth is it all starts with the OS...
If 6.5 was REALLY good it wouldn't need MORE ram than 6.1!
IT isn't really doing anything more than 6.1 is...the only reason for a ram increase is it uses the same bloated code of 6.1 but had to stuff in all the interior decoration to make the start menu look spread out!

you can have it...
I'll wait for WM7 or until someone realizes the way the iphone works is the way of the FUTURE and makes a WM system that doesn't have all the limitations the iphone needs to operate!

The future is multitouch and configurable screens!
Many apps under 6.1 can do the screens already...
instead of making the start menu prettier I would rather MS made the stuff that really matters (operational details and driver support) the priority...not how you launch programs!

Re: Windows Mobile 6.1 / 6.5 / 7 ::UPDATE::

asphyx no one is saying the upgrades are the best and only upgrades possible, but what i am saying is that 6.5 is better then 6.1. obviously windows 7 is suppose to be the groundbreaker new revolutionary os, thats coo, but in the mean time 6.5 is still better then 6.1, whether someone is sick of the old scrolling and would love kinetic scrolling, whether it the fingerfriendly menus, whether its going to be the new voice command ( which hasn't even been ported to our leaked 6.5 roms, yet), or any of the MINOR upgrades, but yet they are still upgrades and better then 6.1. Now think about the upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1, that was even waaaay more minor then this upgrade, but yet everyone uses at least 6.1. its only a matter of time then we'll be having this same talk about upgrading from 6.5 to 6.7 but yet as time passes everyone will use 6.5 its only a matter of time. once you get an updated windows phone you will use 6.5 unless as i said you choose not to upgrade for 2 years which is definitely not an option for me.

Review on 6.5 and 6.1 in the above link...

6.1 out performed in loading time, memory usage and obviously stability given that 6.5 is officially only 3 days old.

the way i see it... 6.5 may have some neat features... (not really) and... it MAY look better or cooler given that its NEWER... but people i'm not sold on it... and... looking at the thread its NOT just verizon users who aren't adapting to 6.5....
I don't know what you're looking at, but looking at this thread it does seem only verizon users having the problem.

202 people use 6.5
159 people use 6.1

The people who haven't tried 6.5 don't count on any poll, i'm sorry but if you count the people who haven't tried it as a way to prove you're point then you're and idiot, sorry but thats the truth. the percentages are greatly in favor of 6.5. Also most of the people who voted 6.1 instead of 6.5 alot of them were vzw users or non touch pro users so they're votes don't count but there is no way to seperate them and 6.5 users are still winning.

WM5??? There's been very little change all the way back to WinCE3.0. MS is obsessed with maintaining backward compatibility, a frequent flaw in my book and diametrically opposite Apple. The biggest change in WM was the addition of the phone app in WM2003. I would venture that the second biggest change IS 6.5 with it's changed start menu, Titanium and kinetic scrolling. MS has stated that 6.x is the end of the road for the current WM buil and WM7 will be a total re write. I think it will be too little way too late to put WM back at the front of the pack, but that remains to be seen. You're comments about 6.5's instability is way off mark too. We're dealing with unsupported leaked beta code here and considering that, it's amazingly stable and complete . As for anyone missing your point? You have to make a clear one first for it to be missed!

what i am saying is that 6.5 is better then 6.1.
please state the technical improvements of 6.5 over 6.1 without talking about titanium (a simple graphic tweak to the today screen) and honeycomb ( simple graphic tweak to the start menu)

Is it faster? NO! Most people report delays in the ringers and also report the very SAME delays in text that are in 6.1....Missed calls are MORE common in 6.5 than they are in 6.1!

Is it more compatible with available software? NO! There are a whole forum full of developers scrambling to make thier apps compatible with 6.5!

IS it more configurable? NO! the 6.5 slider can add widgets but it's no easier to customize than the 6.1 today screen....want proof just look at how many today screen replacements exist for 6.1...do they also work in 6.5? Sure but that doesn't make 6.5 better does it!

Can I add screens to Titanium? NO! All you can do is add widgets that launch programs that give you screens...

So really when you say better what exactly do you mean? Cause you have yet to cite one example where 6.5 did something 6.1 could not do just as easily and more stable.

Well you just seemed to make the point which shows me you at least are getting it....
6.5 is nothing more than a graphical tweak of years old and antiquated code and concepts...
I'm not about to abandon what little stability I have for a graphical facelift...
TF3D may not be ideal but it is a lot closer to the way I want to acess data and programs than titanium....
Titanium is not much more than a full scren scrolling start menu with notifications added...
With titanium you scroll up and down and with TF3D you scroll left to right!
If this titanium thing is just so good then why has every developer on the planet worked on making something that scrolls screens instead of widgets?

IT's not revolutionary and it sure doesn't manage ram any better than 6.1

I don't see ANY advantage to 6.5 at this point...
When I can go a whole day without rebooting my phone or missing a call I'll give it another try....

Since it's actually only a 3 day old release I'll try it again in 3 months once the gurus around here get round to cleaning it up and making it work as well as they have made 6.1 work!

To me right now 6.5 is nothing more than 6.1 with cosmetic surgery.
that doesn't make it any better than 6.1 just maybe prettier at the cost of ram usage!

Wow, there is a whole lot of b!@*hing and ranting in this thread...

Anyhow, I like 6.5. Smoother, faster, and a little easier to use. Thanks MS and the chefs at PPCGeeks for making this experience possible.

This has been my experience as well. Every app that works on 6.1 also works on 6.5 (at least the hundred or so that I've tried ).
