I think I need to exchange my TP...do you agree?

Hello-

Thanks for reading this, I need to get some input.

I got my TP in November, worked great, used eRice's kitchen until about a week ago. I was getting odd problems, Today items disappearing, etc. I went to delete a file in Total Commander and it suddenly started deleting...the root! So I was forced to install a new ROM.

I chose MightyROM, and it worked great for a few days, then one morning I woke up to half a PPC. 90% of all the files on the device were simply gone, ActiveSync settings were gone, S2U2 started but had no files, the same thing with a handful of programs I installed - Pocketwit, Facebook, etc. A hard reset would have left things clean, whereas I still had links in the programs menu and little remnants.

So I moved to Juicy's ROM and it worked fine for a few days. I checked my email, put it down, then remembered I wanted to check the weather, picked up the TP, and it was dead. I kept pressing the power button and suddenly it came back to life, completely hard reset, asking to do the screen alignment, etc. I let it boot up, and on the customization screen it went crazy - the progress bar was just cycling rapidly and only "........" was displayed in the text box under the bar. I tried hard resetting again, same thing. I took the battery out, and now it booted and successfully did the customizations.

This time I left it as pure stock, worked great for two days, and just now I went to check my email and the last screen displayed was still there - it was frozen. Oddly, pressing the End button made the typical noise, and pressing and holding even let me enable vibrate. But the screen was just frozen. I soft reset, and it never gets past the TP logo.

I hard reset again, it booted, but I give up. I'm going to flash back to stock and relock it.

Does this sound like hardware failure? It should be under warranty from Sprint still, right? Can I do that at a store?

Thanks!

-TM

Mine was doing this, here's what I did to correct it:

-Back up contents of storage card to PC if you want to save what is on there... remove the storage card.
-Hard reset the phone
-Put the card in another device (camera? flash reader, whatever) and format it via PC... you want to be sure it's completely clean. If you absolutely don't have something else you can put the card in, get the phone to boot, connect via mass storage mode and format it that way, then remove the card
-Now you can put the card back in the phone
-Re-download ALL of your .cab files. Don't take any from your backup of your storage card unless you need to... you'll have to re-build your .cab library.

It was one of the programs that I had installing that was causing my phone to do this. When I formatted the card, and got fresh .cab files, the problem went away. I was losing random programs, settings, and phone would not boot often... it just started doing it randomly one day. I thought it was a hardware issue, too... but it's just one of the programs that is being installed.

I think the short answer here is just leave your phone stock. Its clear alot of these ROMs I have seen are glitchy. If you dont like the stock phone, buy another brand. Just because you are installing hacked apps doesnt mean its a problem with the phone, its what you are installing onto it.

Im sorry to say... but dont listen to this guy.

We all started somewhere, and we all learned from our mistakes. No one gets everythign right the first time.

I suggest you do what ShadowDrake mentioned and start from scratch. Worst some to worst, leave out the storage card for a week, load the stock rom, and see what happens. Dont add any apps. If you end up with the same problems, then you know its not your fault.

Im gonna have to say, I think its you. I think you may have done somethign, or one of the programs that you use has corrupted big time.

Just try different things...

None of mine showed any signs that they were corrupted. I happened to start using UC when this happened to me... I thought that's what did it so I set it all up for Sashimi again instead... same problem. Installed them by hand, still, same thing. I didn't check filesizes or anything, so who knows. I guess I still could. I have my storage card backup around still.

Re: I think I need to exchange my TP...do you agree?

wait one second..lol.... so you loaded "Custom Roms" and now your phone does not work right...and you want to exchange it cause you think the phone is the problem.

Edit: Like "RugRat" stated....all bets are off once you go "Custom"
