Re: Brutally Honest 1st Impressions - Epic Fail
I absolutely love this phone. My wife has one as well and she does as well.
I am not saying I have never had a problem with my phone, but nothing to make me think it is an epic failure. My problems with the phone. 1. The bluetooth explorer does not work as expected, but the bluetooth menu through the communications menu works fine. 2. Battery could be better. Fixed with better battery. 3. The Sprint white clock is ugly. Installed clear clock. 4. Changing the wallpaper could be easier. 5. Voice command engine lacks Why I think it is a great phone. 1. Sprint GPS application rules and it is free! 2. Love the sliding keyboard! 3. HTC Touch 3D rules! 4. Love the mobile Office! 5. Built in MP3 player - Love it! 6. Microsoft Live absolutely kiss as$. 7. MP3 Trimmer pretty cool. 8. Lots of memory and fast processor! If you think the early iPhone had no problems think again. A co-worker of mine had the first release of the iPhone and he could not stand it. He is much happier with the current release. Last edited by Zombie Scott; 01-26-2009 at 09:38 PM. |

LOL - just got a voice mail notification - phone didn't even ring, nor show a missed call.
Ah man, this is funny.

Re: Brutally Honest 1st Impressions - Epic Fail
I was waiting for this shettj. I see your point, and it really applies across the board to all WM devices. I remember learning the hard facts when I got my first Apache, and had to deal with the "flight mode" bug in the stock ROM, flashing the update that "fixed" it, getting frustrated with it until I stumbled across this site. Since then I've put up with WinMob, and joined in the tweakathon that each new device holds you hostage with. Sure, my Touch worked out of the box when I got it but certain edits were necessary to fix things when some programs were installed. No biggie, login here and search 'em out. If it wasn't for this site or xda, I'd have long gone back to a regular cellphone. Of course they aren't perfect either. My Sammy A920 would lock up randomly and had to do the pull the battery, my wife's Upstage was a frustrating and buggy POS, and most of these devices have their flaws. At least you CAN fix the problems with WM phones, whether you like to or not. There is always someone with a solution.

Re: Brutally Honest 1st Impressions - Epic Fail
I'm actually in the opposite position of the first poster... I used to have a mogul and now I have the TP and I don't feel the need to tweak anything. I added a few apps like google maps and opera mini and skyfire, but that's basically it. I love it since I had my mogul on its own custom cooked rom that still made it run like crap

Winmo is winmo. Since the beginning of time every winmo phone (starting with WinCE) I have ever known I have looked for some way to make it better. Now I can understand that there are just some things that SHOULD work out of the box and specific issue that should be resolved prior to product launch. And those things are: 1) Battery Effencientcy. 2) Above NORMAL heat issues. All phone to a degree, winmo or not, have some heat that is geneterated from use or even ecsessive use. But excessive heat from normal use is not accetable on any level. 3) Performance. Well this one is in the eye of the user. My expectations of performance is going to be different from any user here. But I think we are all on the same page for the basic expectations in general. Now, the beauty of Winmo is that is CAN be tweaked. And although it is not a development phone like the G1, there is a high degree of digging in and getting your hand dirty to winmo. Example, running WinXP, Vista (yes I said it) or any other Windows OS, there is a certain amount of "tweaking" that is done to meet not only your expectations but performance as well. And why do we do it, becasue we can. Now if you want a simplistic phone with some good features, the go for the hype and jump on the train, the iPhone is for you. In my opinion the iPhone is a great phone for the simplistic general public that just wants a really cool simple phone to use. It cant be customized easily and lacks some of the basic features of a Winmo phone. In short, a simplistic device for simple minded people that want something simple to use. Bottom line. To the OP - You, with no argument, have had owned and used winmo phones in the past and this one is now different. You, guilty by association, love winmo. You like the idea of being able to modify and device either to just see if you can do it or make it better for you. You my friend are a "tweaker". Admtting this and coming to terms with is the first step to crossing over to the dark side. Failing to admit this puts you in the class of "closet tweaker". Although a tweaker, you are too ashamed to admit it even though the rest of the world and those around you are fully aware of your tweakiness. Just fess up to it and come out in the open, you are a tweaker, come out of the closet and come to terms with it. You will feel better about you, your firends can breath easier knowing that they do not have to keep your secret any longer and the world will not judge you other wise. So come one, what do you say, admit that you are a tweaker, be happy about it a and tweak to your hearts desire. (Sorry, been a real long weird day. It's all in fun my friend, all in fun.) |
