Side note, I added a full pic to my previous post.

This was an issue for me too, I didn't want to be blasting my voicemail to public. And unfortunately, since the app uses the device speaker, I found a nice small app on freewarepocketpc.net that you can manually direct your windows audio (including regular sounds and music) directly through your ear piece. Here's a link:

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-...udio-v1-0.html

I found this to be very useful when I don't want to put on all the stereo BT or corded headsets on, and listen to podcasts, videos and music and still manage to hear my surroundings.

I tested this on my TP and it works great! With the app, you can manually turn on/off the BT radio, without having to mingle through settings. Very nice integrated app with features, and will work promisingly well with this app I'm sure.

I've attached the cab if anybody is interested...please let me know your opinions.

Re: How To: Set Up Visual Voicemail on your Sprint TP for Free

well I just tried my luck twice- I told them that I just needed to change my voicemail number as I was using a new service now. The first time I got a straight up 'no'. On my second call, she said they had just been notified within the week that changing voicemail numbers was not allowed and that the calls must be forwarded unconditional for .20/min, said a lot of people had been calling in so the memo was sent out...

I guess I'll keep trying, but not looking good :( Im jealous of you lucky ones that got it before all this.

Wow, there has been a lot of questions on this, and I couldn't find a good how to thread that has it all wrapped up in one post, so here it is, if you would like to link it in the TP essentials, that would be fine with me.

First thing you have to do is sign up with Phonefusion, and yes it is completely free.
Here is the LINK

Once you go through the procces of setting up, very easy, it will e-mail you your login and password, you then need go back to Phonefusion and log-in...
It says it will send the download link to your phone automatically, but I had to request it to be sent to me.

To do that, after you log-in, click on the "Fusion Voicemail Plus Destination" under the "Voicemail Options Plus" menu. Then scroll down and click, "send link"
After you get the Link, install it to your main memory...

Next thing you need to do is call the Sprint tier 2 tech Department at
1-877-654-9111 then press #2.....this is the awesome part, it takes you straight to the people who know what they are talking about:mrgreen:

Then you tell them you need to change your voice mail # to 813-200-0200, yes everybody will use this number...

Next, tell them that they should have some options called No Answer, Busy, and Unavailable and they need to set them to CONDITIONAL, this is very important, if you have it set to unconditional you could get charged .20 a minute, so tell them Conditional, and then you are done!

Now enjoy your visual voicemail!!!:headbang:

BTW THIS is where I found out about it, feel free to research it on your own...

EDIT: For those of you worrying about getting a charge, this is straight from the Sprint call forwarding policy...

"
Calls that are forwarded by default to voicemail or mobile messaging are not charged the standard $.20 per minute rate. Calls received when you set unconditional Call Forwarding (*72), Call Forward Busy (*74), and Call Forward No Answer (*73) are charged at $.20 per minute.
"

As I promised here are the Screenshots:twisted:

Re: How To: Set Up Visual Voicemail on your Sprint TP for Free

update: well i called 2 more times, and on my 4th time talking to someone, they did it.

I told them that I had started a new job and we were unable to take our phones inside near sensitive equipment, so they were having everyone use a new voicemail service so that we could still receive messages on the computers. of course that is all a lie, but it worked- he said no problem, I asked multiple times if it was conditional and there would be no charge- he confirmed. :)

I talked to 2 different Tier 2 techs and they made it clear that .20 a minute would be charged... I'm going to look into this some more tho.

Re: How To: Set Up Visual Voicemail on your Sprint TP for Free

#1 Call:
Said I want to change "Default Voicemail". The tech said "are you using a 3rd party voicemail service?" I said "yes." He said no problem, put me on hold for 4 min, then asked for the new number, then over the next 10 min he repeatedly "tested" it by calling me and he couldn't get it to work (still answered by SprintVM). He wanted me to reset my phone, but I was on it, so he said "oh, thats why it isn't updating. If it doesn't work after you hang up, call back when you are on a land line." (He obviously didn't know what he was doing -lol)

#2 Call:
Said I want to change "Default Voicemail". He said "no problem" and immediatly asked for the new number. Put me on hold for 1 min, then said his supervisor said they can't do that because it circumvents their $0.20/min forwarding charge. I said the other guy tried to do it and asked what it was currently set to. It was 11+my-phone-number still, so the first tech didn't change a thing. (???)

#3 Call:
Said I want to change "Default Voicemail in your ESM system". They guy said no problem and immediatly asked for the new number. Put me on hold for 1 min, then said "I can't change the default voicemail, I can only change conditional or unconditional" (did not mention the word "forwarding" or any charge). I said "conditional I guess, but I was told to have you change the default". He said "sorry, I can only change conditional." I said "ok", and 30-seconds later he said "done, is there anything else I can help you with?" I said "nope, thanks" and hung up.

I hope I don't get charged. If I do, I can honestly say the tech said absolutly nothing about any charge or even the word "forwarding". We will see.

I think I will though, because it is not the default. The "default voicemail" is not called conditional or unconditional... it is a 3rd type... right?

Anyway, it's working and I love it. I set the Home-Tab left softkey to "Voicemail" and had it run the app instead of "Phone" which is the same as pressing the hardware talk key. I hope I don't get charged.

PS: I'd love it more if...
1) It showed contact name and picture, plus had an internal player with progress bar instead of launching Windows Media Player Mobile
...does any one know how to make it at least launch a different player?

or 2) It just forwarded to GMail and I could some how tell the phone to only auto-download attachments from FVM.

or 3) It just simply sent an MMS with the voice mail from the callers number. That would be awesome!

Re: How To: Set Up Visual Voicemail on your Sprint TP for Free

Just sent the following to FVM Sales/Marketing support...

Code:

Thanks for providing your awesome free VMplus service.

My idea is this: If your service simply sent an MMS with an attached voicemail that appeared to be from the caller, your service would automatically have the following benefits over the current implementation.

1) You would not need to install any custom software on your phone.
2) Messages would simply appear under "messaging" along with TXT and other voice/picture/video MMS messages.
3) Messages would automatically show contact name and picture along with the attached voicemail.
4) Messages would have built in MMS notification icons on the top of the screen.
5) Messages could be played back inside the MMS viewer instead of having to launch icky Windows Media Player.

You would have to allow messages to be deleted from your server with the following options:
1) User could enable Auto-Delete upon sending the MMS.
2) With auto-delete off, either reply to the MMS with a blank message to delete, or delete using your web interface.

In the mean time or if you cannot implement this way for some reason, here are some app suggestions:
1) Please add contact name and pic to your app.
2) Please add an internal player with a progress-bar instead of launching WMP.
3) Please allow a custom background image instead of just black.

In the mean time of that request, is it possible to somehow tell it to launch the sound file in some other player besides WMP?

Do you mean your phone number or your new VM number, if you mean your new VM number, you can't call that from another line...
If you mean you are calling your phone number, then you/sprint screwed something up while forwarding calls?

Then sounds like someone at sprint disabled your sprint VM and didn't reenable the new one...

My guess is that they put in the wrong number so I would call back to verify, the other possibility is that you may have messed something up when you sent it in to phonefusion, but I would call sprint first...

PS sorry for the late reply

Why is it BS? It has been stated many, many times in this thread that changing this default vm number is against Sprint policy. The fact that some people have got some reps to do it doesn't make it a right for everyone to have it.

blankd3ckskat3r 01-14-2009 05:41 PM

Re: How To: Set Up Visual Voicemail on your Sprint TP for Free

its bs because its your phone number you should be able to choose where your voicemail goes. if other carriers allow it, why should sprint users be stuck with this garbage, having some reps do it and some not. maybe to be fair to their customers, they should revise everyones account and take the number off.

According to some of the members here Sprint has sent a memo around to there Reps telling them not to do this anymore, while i may not agree with that, what can I say.....It is Sprint...

However, I have it because they "were" (and still are according to some) willing to do it, I wasn't tricking them, I told them exactly what I wanted and why I was doing it, and they were willing to do it....
And until I have a Sprint Supervisor take it off or tell me that they shouldn't have done that, then it is definitely not WRONG:drunken:

No offense, but it just sounds like sour grapes to me. You were never promised visual vm from Sprint for free, so you shouldn't be upset that you don't have it. It's like every other workplace in America, some employees just don't follow policy. Is that fair for those that only interact with the employees who do follow the policy? Maybe not, but as the saying goes, life isn't fair. I would like to have visual voicemail on my phone and not pay call forwarding, but it's not that big of a deal. I've survived this long without it, so I'm sure I can do without. If I couldn't do without it, I would switch providers. It's an extremely minor negative compared to many positives that I have with Sprint.

I would imagine that the CID of where the call is coming from will allow the Visual Voicemail company to know which mailbox to kick the call to.

Its not against sprint policy if you ask them to do it and they do it. If it is against sprint policy then its the representative who will get in trouble. Nobody is trying to trick them into doing it. Simply ask and if they do it, you good to go.

maybe this will show sprint the popularity of vvm on phones other than the instinct. it can't be cheap or a good use of time/resources for sprint to go back and change all these accounts, if that's what they are really doing.

What kind of backwards logic is that? Just because an employee does something that is against a company policy doesn't negate the fact that the policy does exist.

But that doesn't mean that it was our fault that they did it, we asked for it and they did it, do we know the policy? Weren't you saying that it wasn't right for us to have it while others don't? You can't tell me it is wrong for us to have it if indeed the rep did go against policy, how are we supposed to know.

Anyway, like I said before until I get a call from a supervisor to tell me that the rep did something they shouldn't have, then to me it is not against there policy. I have yet to see anything from sprint saying that we can't do this:drunken:

Re: How To: Set Up Visual Voicemail on your Sprint TP for Free

I think with the number of people who have been told it is not supposed to be done compared to the people who have had it done for them, it's safe to say that Sprint does not want people to circumvent the system to use a 3rd party vm service. I never said it was wrong for anyone to call and ask for it to be done. Hell, I did the same thing. My point was, knowing Sprint didn't want people to be able to do this, I didn't get upset or bent out of shape when I was turned down and no one else should either. If you got it to work, that's awesome for you. If you didn't, don't sweat it.

I'm sorry. Don't mean to be a bother. Not lazy or anything. Just at work and hard to keep up with all the pages on this thread.

My friend has Diamond on Altel network. Visual VM for her is that her VM comes to her phone in form of text.

I don't know anyone who has Instict to see for my self.

But my co worker's wife has Instinct. And the way he descibed Vivual VM is that she can choose a msg and it simply plays that msg. She has option to delete, choose which msg to listen to etc...., but he doesn't think they have option of VM coming to her in text form.

My question is with this method decribed in this thread, is it like the Instinct's as descibed to me by my co worker, or is it like my friend's methon on Altel?

That is my deciding factor. I want/prefer the Altel version of VVM.

Thanks.

I am afraid that it is set up like your co worker said, however I like it like that...
It actually does come in the form of a text but not in the way you think.

The text is not readable(at least to us) and is picked up by the program before you will ever see it. The program just lets you choose which ones you want to here and lets you play/delete them...

Hope that helps

I just tried this an the tech said that I would have to setup *72 and do that good stuff, I told them that I don't want to setup call forwarding because I don't want to be charged money. He said "well, that's the only way to get it done or call PhoneFusion" I told him that I would just call back and speak to another tech. Then kindly said thank you for your "help" ha ha Then I found this on the PhoneFusion site ""When you call up Sprint, the first thing to do is ask for Tech Support right away. They are the only ones who can set up the correct forwarding - Customer Service can’t. Ask the Tech Support representative to change the "Call Forward/Busy" and

"Call Forward/No Answer" fields (NOT Unconditional Call Forwarding) to the Fusion Voicemail Plus number - 813-200-0200. The Tech Support representative will authorize and activate the feature. There is no additional charge for this service, unlike regular unconditional call forwarding which charges $0.20 per usage.""
