Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle

I don't know if I've posted in here, but I noticed this problem went to a sprint store and they ordered me a replacement immediately, apparantly one of the techs had the same issue with his phone. I received a brand new in box phone, but they didn't let me take the box, since I already had one.

That's all fine and good until it stops working all together. It will go from a small blob to a square covering most of the screen, and when that happens it will act like you are holding down a portion of the screen.

Two months ago I got my first replacement for this problem, and I just got my SECOND replacement phone for the same thing, the first time i was convinced it was due to some trauma to the screen, but now I know it just happens. The guy at the sprint store tried to tell me it was because HTC overloads the LCD with liquid lol...

Also it is definitely not moisture.

Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle

I'm wondering how many people have actually had their screen stop responding after they noticed this happening? The other problem is if most of the new phones people are getting have this problem so will all the replacement phones until we start seeing phones manufactured with out this issue.

I would say that there will be a 100% fail rate at some point, I think it just depends on how bad the screen is "leaking" and what other environmental factors play in. Anyone had the problem for a long time (like more than a couple months) and not had it fail yet? I also would wonder why anyone would hold on to one that long knowing there is a problem. Also most of us have fluorescent lighting in offices or places of work so I imagine those people wouldn't put up with it either.

On another note, the Sprint stores around MN all seem to have fluorescent lights but they are some sort of high intensity compact version, not the 4' tubes I have in my office. The one's in the Sprint store make it very hard to see the blob so be prepared to get some funny looks when you try to explain to an unknowing tech what is wrong. In fact this last time I got a replacement the guy that ordered it for me didn't understand, but also didn't hesitate to order the phone. However the guy that I picked the phone up from said, "Ohhhh, your the guy with the oil slick on your phone!". Apparently they had a good laugh after I left the store on Wednesday. They still efficiently took care of me, I ended up with another brand new TP in the box with all the accessories, and he let me keep my old battery. Not that I would have cared if it was a recon, but nice to have some more accessories.

Manufacture date is 2/18 so we'll see how it goes. This is my first '09 model.

Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle

I agree that if it's a defect I don't want to keep the phone. I just don't want to have to send another back in two weeks if it develops the same problem. This is already my 2nd phone. 1st one had crack in the chrome & this 1 developed the rainbow slick in less then 1 week. This 1s build date is 2/23/09. I'm curious how many people have developed this problem & if anyone has had this issue for an extended period and not had the screen stop responding. Also, if people are getting new phones that do not develop this problem. 2/23/09 is a pretty new build & it was not immune to this.

Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle

My build date is 2/22/09 and I noticed the blob within less than 24hours of having the device. Now that I look at it, I've noticed it get 4x the size WITH NORMAL USE. I don't even know if I should go to the Sprint Store and get another one....

Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle

Ill tell ya this... if its moisture then I hope you dont go outside in below freezing temp... if its LCD leakage, then your screen is shot... either way, it is a defect that should not be tolerated.
