VZW - More RAM / disable Dialer Skin

Want 8-12 more MB of free RAM on your horribly gimped 6850???? Just disable the pretty HTC dialer skin. The dialer will switch back to the default WM one, which to be honest, I still prefer. Little did I know the HTC skin was sucking up about 10 MB of RAM.

Give it a shot and share the results. You can use several apps like Advanced Config or Diamond Tweak to disable the HTC dialer skin, or change it manually via the registry.

Below is the manual registry tweak:
-'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Security / Phone / Skin'
-change the value of 'Enabled' from 1 to 0.

Hope that helps make all the 6850 users smile.

Pretty nice find, never used windows mobile before I got my diamond other than playing around with a coworkers phone, the dialer isn't bad but I do like having the speakerphone so easy to access. It's 2 button presses with the windows mobile dialer.

Re: Want MORE RAM? Disable HTC Dialer Skin

I did this in the registry and I'm seeing about that much RAM freed up. Dialer not much worse, if any, so I'll probably leave it in. This is a nice tweak!

Just did a little test to see how much RAM various programs use and 10MB is a pretty big chunk when many programs use only 2-4MB of RAM.

Is this setting really in advanced config though, I don't see it?

Yes, this worked for me very well. And to be honest I think I like this dialer better anyway. Plus it responds faster as well.

Yes by using the wm dialer you'll get rings faster (instead of a 3 second delay or so). You should also adjust your Slot cycle index (SCI) to 1 and you'll be set. You won't be able to get rings much faster after those two tweaks.

But keep in mind, reducing your SCI eats battery a bit faster

Re: Want MORE RAM? Disable HTC Dialer Skin

Great find

I know I have seen this skin on xda... wonder if deleting the htc version and loading up the xda one would let you still use the dialer but also save on ram.

I have the sprint tp so I'm not eager to try it but I might just to see.

Re: Want MORE RAM? Disable HTC Dialer Skin

Another way to enable more ram is to run SKTools > Optimize > Optimize for Memory. I am still running the HTC Dialer and have 47MB free at Boot.

Re: Want MORE RAM? Disable HTC Dialer Skin

i just tried this on my sprint touch pro for the heck of it... it increased my boot time ALOT.

i advise everyone to do this, and not to be an jerk about it, but now im sitting at 26% ram in use, i have more than i'll EVER use lol... tbh vzw users, ur not going to use more than 50 megs
