If you're getting audio out in that way - that means you didn't break the pin as far down as necessary. Provided you didn't break any adjacent pins.

I had that happen to me the first time I tried it with this adapter. I looked closely at the jack in bright light - and saw that the pin needed breaking further down. So I dragged a clothespin deeper down to do so.

I didn't have to do anything else besides break that pin. I've made 2 tv out cables, though the second one was made with a different extusb adapter, twining the wires together. But on the extusb end - all I had to do was break that one pin - I didn't need to ground anything else. That's what most others have done as well.
My adaptor doesn't register as anything by itself, with the cables I have plugged into it, or with the cables plugged into it and the TV (in all possible configurations of the 3 plugs).

I'm wishing I tried the adaptor out before the modification, as a headphone adaptor!

Yeah, I noticed that, but I forgot to mention it. Anyways, I've been using a 3.5 ipod video out now, but I have pretty bad quality. I can barely make out text in the opera browser, and videos show crappy. What wire are you using, and how is the quality?

Edit: Sorry I took so long replying, my computer died last Friday and I had to build a new one.
In my case, When I snipped the blue wire, the adaptor didn't make the phone register tv out mode, I had to plug in the wire first.

That's pretty weird. I wonder why it worked otherwise for so many others.

As for picture quality, mine's pretty decent. Actually, better than I expected. On my SDTV, I can easily make out text on my screen. Videos are good but not great through Coreplayer. Black levels are fairly bad - but I think Coreplayer bears most of the blame. The video quality is a full grade below a PMP (compared to an Archos 605), but it's still a useful gadget.

Yeah, using coreplayer, I stick with the video settings on high, using direct draw. It shows up slightly better with the Qtv setting on, however I have the notorious blue flicker.

Re: Another TV-out diy guide simple

ok got it to work with a connon cable, and it used the red output, also at first had some issues with it recognizing it, but showing a black screen with bunch of crap, played with where the cable was not sure if it was shorting something out, but it did recognize the cable with that issue, and after messing around it is working with the red as video
