Re: Another TV-out diy guide simple

How is that any different than the one you get with the Touch Pro (except that it's a little bigger and has no cable)?

Mine also seemed fragile after putting it back together, so I put a couple of VERY SMALL drops of super glue in the corners.

It's a lot less expensive to replace than the one that came with your touch pro. You can buy it now for $4 from EBAY. But the one that came with your touch pro has more connections - and would cost $15 + shipping to replace.

So for those that don't want to get into the Touch Pro adapter in case it's needed for a return - the $4 adapter is ideal. Also - this confirms that those who have extusb to 3.5mm adapters from the mogul can use those instead.

Re: Another TV-out diy guide simple

I tried doing this with an old audio adapter I had from Javoedge, and a video cable for my ipod. I broke off the 4th pin, plug in the ipod video cable, and when I run the tv out it says I must have a tv out cable. Below are pics of the adapter I used, and the pin I broke off. Did I break the right one? Maybe there's some reason this adapter won't work?

Instead of pulling pin 4, though, I opened the box (easy with a small flat head screwdriver) and cut the BLUE wire coming from the connector. That way, I can add a switch later if I want and have it both ways! Since the blue wire is pin 4, either way will work. Good find!
I can verify that the blue wire does indeed determine if a headset is plugged in or not. I cut mine and then carefully spliced each of the cut ends. I added on some thin wire I had laying around to each of the cut ends and used a hot glue gun to keep everything from moving as well as add insulation against shorts. I then made a small hole on the side of the casing and ran the wires out. I had to use superglue to put the top of the case back on as it wouldn't stay on without it.

If I plug in a headset and have the two wires I ran out connected, it sees the headset. If they are not connected, no headset is seen.

Unfortunately, I don't have a 4 pin jack to plug in, but I'll get one in the next day or so. I might add on a switch at some point as well.

NOTE: If you plan on cutting the wire and want to add some wire to it, I would suggest you remove the yellowish tape around the wire bundle coming in to the box, so you have more of the blue wire exposed to work with. Just make sure you use something to insulate it after removing it.

EDIT: I had a switch laying around that I connected and it worked at toggling the headphone detection on/off. It's a large switch that I won't be using for this, but it was more for testing.

EDIT2: I still don't have a video cable, but I tried plugging in a 2.5mm 4 pole headset/w mic just to see if I would get the video icon. I did not, but I think it might be due to the ROM I am using. I am using Juggalo's and I wonder if he didn't put the video output drivers in.

EDIT3: Looks like the Juggalo ROM doesn't have the TV software. If you have a ROM missing it, install the attached file.

Below is a picture of a 4 pole 3.5mm cable for anyone interested.

LOL look at the disaster that I made. Used my Mogul's old adapter that was still packaged and some Dreamcast rca cables that were also still packaged.

I think it might still work. I had that problem with two of the adapters I broke the 4th pin on. The problem is that it didn't break all the way back, and some of the pin's material was still making a connection. So I used a clothespin to really break up the rest of the pin that was in the back and almost not visible. I was able to get both adapters to work that way, by the way.

For the record, immediately when you plug in the modified adapter (it doesn't matter if you have the camcorder cable in or not) you should see a screen pop up that asks you about PAL or NTSC. This alone should tell you whether you broke pin 4 well enough.

Thanks for the info. I checked and the pin is broke all the way back. So it must be some problem with the adapter.

Re: Another TV-out diy guide simple

How do you break off the pin? I am using a watch repair screwdriver kit but the screwdriver cant break the pin and things are starting to look like a teenager with a face like a peperoni pizza.

Re: Another TV-out diy guide simple

For anyone that has the 4 pole 3.5mm working, please let us know what the cable was for (ipod video, cam corder, etc). Not all 4 pole plugs are wired the same as shown in my previous post. I want to make sure I get one that will work when I buy one.

EDIT: Looking at the thread on xda, it looks like it will need to be an ipod or zune plug to be wired correctly. A standard camcorder one looks like it will work if you plug the red cable into the video and plug the yellow into the red port. In other words, switch the red and yellow when you plug them into your TV.

This is just a guess as I don't have either of these cables to test.
