Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
Thought I'd share my "No Clean Up" method. This method conserves on dye, save pots from damage and requires very little clean up.
Here's what you need: (1) Bottle of liquid RIT Dye (used liquid due to it being concentrated) (1) Medium Size Pot (1) Measuring Cup (1) Ziplock Bag (1) Touch Pro Battery Cover (Clean with soap and water prior to following the below.) 1. Boil pot of water on high till you see small bubble appear on the bottom of pot. 2. Lower heat to low setting. 3. Microwave 1 1/2 Cup of water in measuring cup and pour into Ziplock Bag. 4. Add 1/4 of the bottle of dye to water in bag and mix. More dye maybe need if you wand a darker shade of the color you selected. 5. Open baggie with Dye mix and add the cover, seal and drop baggie in to pot. 6. Let pot sit on low heat with biggie for 15 minutes slowly stirring the entire time. May require more time if you want a darker shade of the color you selected. 7. Remove baggie and place in sink. Run cold water to cool bag and contents. 8. Remove cover and rinse under cold water. 9. Use dish towel or any soft cloth to buff for 10 minutes. An old white sock is idea because you will see any rub-off. it should be minor. buffing is what really makes this work. think of it as a buff job on a freshly painted car. Notice that no dye ever touches the pot and the amount of mixure made is small compared to a whole pot of this dye mix. Clean up is a breeze. Did my first cover 3 weeks ago and experince no ruboff on sweaty hands and it's been 90 plus here for some weeks. My cover looks as if it came from HTC. P.S. Avoid harsh cleaners and chemicals. Stick to a microfiber cloth and give her a good rub down. Now I'm off to sprint to pick-up another cover. This was too easy not to have some variety... ;O) Enjoy!!! Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
the buffing is what did it for me. i did the 3-step instructions on the last page, and my cover came out splotchy. but after buffing it with an old sock, it looks perfect!

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
Spiffy. But everyone, as a heads up, do not, i repeat, do not use Dark Green. It will turn the battery door a speckled gunmetal color.(eh, i don't like it.) I found this out when I was trying to create a university of miami logo between orange and green on a TP batt door. I had the battery taped off properly, and even the orange went through great, but the green messed it all up. I also tried Dylon permanent fabric dye powder in tropical green, but it didn't hold at all, even after i poured in the whole packet.
But anywho, here are all my current ones.(except for the Miami University one, of course.) The one all the way to the right is a nice shade of blue that happened when I used the Teal powder dye. I wanted to do half blue and half orange, but I ran out of orange. Last edited by Major_Nate; 07-31-2009 at 01:52 AM. Reason: decreased image size. |

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
although i haven't done this to my cover (YET), i can confirm this works just as well on any other plastic that has the rubberized coating like the touch pro cover.
tried it on some blue LED lights that had a rubberized coating on the plastic case and it worked beautifully! i just wish RIT dye was $1.48 here. ended up paying almost $4 at the local grocery store for the powdered dye |

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
I have a scarlett cover and a Royal blue which both look amazing. The first one I did was Navy and it looks nothing like navy it looks more like a dark wine color. It looks black unless the right light hits it and then the dark wine like red comes out a little. Not too fond of it myself and will probably dye it black soon.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
dont know if this was answered yet but,
can you re-dye it if you dont like how it came out...ex you dye it red but want to change it to white or something, will there be any issues with the colors mixing or anything?? |

Quote:
I did this with my old Diamond covers. All I did was go back to Walmart or wherever you got your Dye, just buy the color remover and do the same as dying a cover. It take the RIT Dye off and the cover is the original color again. Then you can redye it another color
