at the very most the water should be just a little hotter than you can stand to put your hand in. Also if you can use the liquid dye instead of the boxed/powder type. this way you can get 4 or 5 dye treatments out of the same amount of dye and at roughly the same cost.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
I mentioned before that I have had good luck with three different waters
Color water at 150, time depends on color and desired darkness Hot rinse, Boiling water, 13-25 seconds Cold rinse, till the cover cools off The Hot rinse helps seal the color IMO. This is common to do to seal the color in anodizing, and most of the home anodizers use these same dyes. |

I have now done 3 covers with the 3 step process and nary a problem. I only mention it because again, the anodizing guys do it, if they dont do the boiling water step to colors end up wearing off. I can take pictures of my covers if someone wishes just to make sure I'm not pulling your chain, but other than a few white spots on my blue (actually purple) cover due to improper cleaning all the covers are perfect. |

15 seconds is not bad at all. Ill boil it next time I do it, Mine was a 2 step process with only low heat water and then straight to ice cold water. |
