Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
What I have been doing saves me a lot of mess and time when I started this new method, and took only 10-15 minutes of my lunch time.
Since I work next to starbuck 1) Take my lunch break 2) Go next door to starbuck 3) Ask for hot water in a venti cup 4) Sit outside and pour the Dye , stir , drop the cover and stir. 5) Between 10-15 mins. Stir one last time , put the lid on the cup 6) Walk back to work , go into the restroom and rinse in cold water. 7) Wipe dry and do a little buffing. DONE !!! Heat up my lunch start eating.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
Just dyed my cover black and it looks awesome!! Thanks for the awesome tip! I have an Invisible Shield on the rest of my unit and I was wondering if you guys think it would be possible to dye the side protectors? For those of you who aren't familar with it, this is what it looks like.
The material seems like it would soak up the dye but i'm not sure how I'd do it. Anyone have any ideas? I know it doesn't cover the unit entirely, but I think that the edges of silver that would still be showing would look really good as accents. Any ideas? |

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!
I did some covers myself! I had acquired a large collection of backs before trying, and these are my results.
-The black one with the liquid black dye, took about 1/3rd of the bottle and maybe 15 minutes -The gold was a fun one. A whole package of Golden Yellow power dye, about 15 minutes as well. This one came out very unique and I like it. Looks much better in person -Blue was royal blue power, NOT MUCH POWDER and literally took about 4 minutes to get it to this color and I pulled it. I originally tried and left it in about 10 minutes and it looked too purple, so I just went ahead and made it black. -Red was Scarlet liquid dye. Took about 10-15 minutes. Really like this one. -OEM one for comparison. It has a crack in the camera lens, so didn't want to dye this one. In all cases, I had the water on a "4.5" out of 12 options for heat on my stove. I started with hot water from the faucet and let it get hot enough to let my fingers sit in there a few seconds without feeling pain.

The Invisible Shield is more of a thin sticky cover that goes on so that's why I was worried how it would dye sorry bout that, i thought you meant gel type cases. Last edited by dschoenike; 02-11-2009 at 12:24 AM. |

That blue is nice. That's the color I wanted to try but haven't found another cover.
My Scarlet red cover is starting to show the discoloration around the edges but at least the dye if covering it. This doesn't have anything to do with grimey hands as I've very careful with it and it's in a zip-lock bag most of the time.
