This is using Rit's "Sunshine Orange" dye. I simply dumped the whole 1-1/8 oz box into a large pot with about 1-1/2 gallons of water for 15 minutes on medium heat, stirring occasionally (add salt and pepper to taste).

The cover turned out very... uhh... orange. I'm happy with the results. However, there is one caveat I should mention. I've yet to determine the reason, but as you can (hopefully) see in this second picture below, something during the process caused some blackening around the inside perimeter of the lens cover that I can't clean up.

This discoloration doesn't seem to be visible on any photos I've taken with it since though. So unless you really stare at the back lens cover, it really won't be an issue.

Good luck to everyone else willing to make the small sacrifice that is, their battery cover. I'm off to paint some happy trees and sheds. Bob... out.
dude, your covers came out awesome. i cant wait until i get back into the states so i can get my covers and post them up on here!!! congratz man!!!

That leaves me with another item of interest to note (sort of along those lines). I had to remove the "Invisible Shield" that I had on the back to get this dyed and noticed that the underside of the shield was discolored from the original finish on the back cover. This wasn't on the entire shield, but just along the curved edges on the right/left sides (if that makes sense). So, does that mean that the original finish is a simple dye job too? Something to ponder... or not.
@Bob,

the invisible sheild actually gets dirty and tans itself (weird, i know) but that is covered in the waranty if you take it back to wherever you got it done. BUT...make sure you let them take it off next time because that stuff has an insane hold and in my time working for them ive seen many ppl break their covers trying to take them off.

Oh, btw, it IS possible to TINT the shield but you cannot fully color it without damaging the product. as soon as i get back into the states, I'll post up the pix of my back covers.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

so after dying my cover black, I decided to put the Invisible Shield on the battery cover since I didn't put it on when I put the rest of the ones on the phone since I liked the feeling of the original back cover. it looks A TON better with the shield on with the black. It gives it a glossy look so it matches the rest of the phone better. I'd take pics but not sure if it would show up very well.

Anyways, my new goal is to make a back cover that matches the Sprint TP's bottom buttons (home, back, answer, hang up). They are kind of a grayish color. Anyone have any ideas how I can get this. I think if I could pull it off, it would look amazing. I thought maybe just simply putting it in a little bit of the black for a short period of time, but when I checked my original black, it looked more purple than gray. Also adding some blue might add a little tint to it. What do you guys think? Is it possible/worth the trouble?

-Blue was royal blue power, NOT MUCH POWDER and literally took about 4 minutes to get it to this color and I pulled it. I originally tried and left it in about 10 minutes and it looked too purple, so I just went ahead and made it black.
-Red was Scarlet liquid dye. Took about 10-15 minutes. Really like this one.
-OEM one for comparison. It has a crack in the camera lens, so didn't want to dye this one.

In all cases, I had the water on a "4.5" out of 12 options for heat on my stove. I started with hot water from the faucet and let it get hot enough to let my fingers sit in there a few seconds without feeling pain.

I must say that blue cover is absolutely awesome. Makes me want to call Sprint tomorrow and see if I can get the MIR on the upgrade to the Touch Pro considering I'm on the $30 SERO plan...

Yeah, the blue does look good. Just be swift with it, really it did not take more than 4 minutes and I think its a bit more purple than I'd like. If I did it again I'd use a little less powder and pull it in about 3 minutes.
