Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

I did mine with Royal Blue. What I did was, I put water into a 2-liter soda bottle up to the bottom of the label. I squeezed the bottle and put the cap on, heated it up in the microwave until it got to between 120-130 degrees. I then poured in a bit of the powdered RIT dye, not even an eight of the package, maybe less. Shook it up after closing the cap. The water looked almost black, but the bubbles showed the blue. I cut the bottle open, and started dipping the cover in.

I had tried doing a gradient, but it didn't look too great, so I ended up putting the cover back in the other way to make it match.

It came out a purplish blue. It looks AWESOME! Will post pictures later.

I had it in there for a total of about 20 minutes to get this color. A six minute dip made it not dark enough to look stock, which is why I gave up on the gradient. Well, actually it looked stock - in comparison to the crappy color the stock one came.

Edit: See Post #611 later on here pictures & #618 for more details on how I did it.

I told her to just accept red and she almost went with it, but then decided on purple at the last second. They both turned out perfectly, with hers being darker than she wanted. Thanks for the idea and steps. Appreciate it.

BTW, I used the liquid dye. Very little buffing was required, basically just to even it out.
If you don't want to go out and buy the purple, you could try my method, and just add a pinch of red. I also dipped a paper towel into my mix before putting my cover in to see more or less what color it would come out. It was more RADIANT blue than what my cover came out, but it was a hiNt as to how dark it would be if I left it in long enough. I would also suggest not leaving it in too long before checking the color, and if not dark enough, then putting it back in longer.

I looked for the purple, but I kind of live in the boonies. So I dont have many options. She wants to get a lighter color and try dying it again. Who knows how this is gonna turn out, but its her cover. Not mine. So im willing to do whatever she wants...so long as she knows that its what she wants. lol

We are gonna try to get a couple of extra covers from some sprint stores, so who knows.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

For what it's worth....I talked to a friend who works at a Radio Shack I used to work at in my hometown. His Sprint market rep. said that Sprint is going to start carrying more parts in their repair centers for Diamond and Pros in February. Meaning as opposed to just having extra battery covers laying around they will have them on hand for that purpose. He said when HTC starts giving parts out for their phones is when you usually see companies make a lot more accessories and battery covers and housings to start showing up on ebay.

From what I have read here, the liquid is easier. From my own experience, the liquid is very easy. Some people have said that you do not have to do any buffing with the liquid. Not true in my case. But I only had to buff for about 30 seconds and everything looked great. I have not used the powder so I cant comment on it. Go the liquid route. Very easy process.
