It's a perfectly reasonable expectation of users that if they leave their phone ON and charging it should NOT lock up at night, for any reason.

It's when you leave your phone ON and charging at night only to find when you wake up that your phone has locked up and requires a reset to wake up. THEN when it's back to normal you find that it never even CHARGED while on the charger ... and locked up.

The proposed solution to avoid having the phone lock up while charging was to turn the phone off. that's NOT a solution, but ahorrible work-around because ..... YOU MISS CALLS ! No phone wil ring if turned off.

I'm in double jeopardy here because I work on-call every 4 weeks and I also have a father who is in Hospice at the moment. I can afford to miss ZERO calls.

My solution (work-around) is to NOT charge my phone at night. I charge it while driving to.from work and if it's low I USB charge it while I'm sitting at my desk.

Can ya hear me now? Apples to Apples ... Oranges to Oranges ... We all fall down.

Oh, I think you misread the proposed solution. He said that he basically told his device to stay ON, and not "fall-asleep," after a certain timeframe, while on the charger.

Yes, this prevents the Touch Pro from crashing, but at the same time, it's unacceptable, and not all Touch Pros do this, making me think it's a hardware issue. If yours does this, return it.

Mine never crashed once, unless I was running an intensive application in the background, (a battery logger.) Otherwise, it was fine. I still had a miriad of other problems though--so I returned it, completely. I feel sorry for people who picked up the Pro, and are diappointed with it, but are STUCK in their 2-year agreements. To those who are happy, more power to you.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight

Well I was off today so I experimented with the phone. The phone charged up all the way without a problem. The problem occurs after the phone is fully charged for me at least. After the phone was fully charged I kept it plugged in and after about an hour the phone locked up. I did a soft reset and the phone which was fully charged dropped down to about 75% batter life. I will try this again but the thing that sucks is that it doesnt happen all the time so it might be hard to duplicate the problem.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight

I, like the rest on this thread have had "freezing up while charging" issues. At first, I thought I had a defective phone so I had it replaced. Two days later, the same issues arrived. That's when I came to this forum looking for answers. I took the advice on this thread and unchecked the two boxes. Two weeks went buy and I had no more problems which was great cause it had been locking up just about every other night. That is, untill this morning. Woke up, grabbed my phone, and sure enough, it was frozen. Had to remove my battery to get it to work. So I am letting everyone know that the good news is that unchecking those boxes helps, but it doesn't sove the problem.

I think we all agree that this issue is related to the battery and overheating. So, my next question is........
If one purchased a more powerful battery with an extended door to fit said new battery, could that solve the issue? I mean my current battery lasts about 8 hrs with very very light use. I have to charge 3-4 times a day when I actually use its functions such as playing music, texting, talking, and internet. The battery is so poor it's on the verge of unacceptable. So I was wondering if the weak batter contributes to the locking up while charging? I know that sounds dumb seeing as it's connected to an outlet but is it possible the battery can't handle the juice after so many hours of charging overnight?

If anything, a bigger battery would make the problem worse. The charging circuitry would heat up more.

Your best bet is to find a lower-amperage charger, like a 500mA. People seem to have less problems when they charge it much slower. You could also charge it via USB, which is between 250mA and 500mA.

Ridiculous that you guys have to band-aid such an expensive device. I got out while the going was good.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight

Did a hard reset 3 weeks ago, haven't seen the problem since.

I know I just screwed myself by posting that.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight

Just got my first lockup with my replacement phone - this one has a build date of 10/16 though, so its older than my previous.

I am planning on going back in tomorrow to get it replaced, but tell me is there really any hope? Do any of the touch pros seriously NOT have this problem? I love this phone a lot, but good lord I cannot have lockups.

To my knowledge this is what happened:
Went to bed around 11:45pm, set my alarm, turned volume up, went to sleep. Woke up at 4:41AM thanks to a lovely e-mail from my boss, read it, then turned the phone back off and went to back to sleep.

Woke up at 7:08 am (8 minutes after my alarm was supposed to go off). Touch Pro was lockedup with the solid ring...WRoD (White Ring of Death?).

Is there any hope? Serioisly?? I plan on taking mine back regardless to try to make them more aware of the problem. I don't want a damn freezing phone!

If it makes you feel any better, I have a Sprint TP activated on Verizon with the leaked VZ ROM & it has never frozen up once.
