Official Response from HTC:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry about your HTC Touch Pro!

We would be happy to assist you with this. HTC is aware of this issue and are working to resolve it. Unfortunatly, at this time we do not have software available to resolve it. Once it is available it will be on www.htc.com/us. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience in this matter.

I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

You would think they could fix this fairly easily.

Also, the custom ROMs seem to do this as well. Weird. I guess if they are based off of the stock ROM, then they probably share the same core messaging portions, which makes sense. I bet this is somehow a deeply-embedded issue, othewise they would have pushed out an update.

Re: glitch in the contact software

someone else started a thread asking about this issue, and this thread got linked as well. I posted my issue in that thread, but figured I'd do the same one in here, just in case this one comes up on searches more frequently. Anyway, I have the issue with the r key initiating a call of the first contact (I think actually it might be whatever contact is being highlighted at the moment), but I also have an issue where my w key will add an asterik at the end "w*", and my x key will add a pound sign at the end "x#".

I don't know if this might be a potential clue, but it is almost like a phone dialer is "hidden" under the keys, tilted 90 degrees, since the w and x are separated by one key (though the s key doesn't add a 0 after it). just a thought.
