Re: PSA: Hard-reset your Pro when you get it

I have read on the Diamond site that you need to soft reset three times to bypass the customizations... Don't know if it is true...

Re: PSA: Hard-reset your Pro when you get it

I hard reset in the hopes that the texting speed would be improved in threaded SMS, but the gains are temporary. Before you populate your contacts, it seems really fast, but as soon as you've entered contacts, it goes back to being slow.

It's almost like the overlay which opens up when you're entering a contact name lookup is being done again, but isn't showing up, just wasting cycles.

This doesn't work. At least not for the hardware kbd.

This was also quite tricky. I had to use both hands and my mouth to hold the stylus LOL.
What? Read the first post. No stylus necessary.

Sure does.

Yes, whatever is on your phone now, be it updates or not, is all that was in the ROM to begin with. A hard reset will not change that.

I am having quite a few quirky problems with my TP and I'm willing to give a hard reset a chance.
Your phone will come up after customizations, and will work just fine. You will have to customize it again though, with your contacts, and other settings. Phone-wise it should be fine. I didn't even have to re-run the IOTA, my data worked perfectly right after the hard-reset.

When I bought my Touch Pro from Best Buy, I had to wait for the Sprint Customizations to install before it was ready to be activated.
Not necessarily true. When installing a ROM it is a good idea (and widely recommended in these forums, as well as at XDA, to hard reset your phone several times. I don't know the exact reason for this, but I assume that sometimes files are not copied properly, but it usually fixes weird glitches/problems. I normally hard-reset 2 or 3 times after loading a ROM.

I wish someone could fix that, sometimes I will have my whole message typed out before it catches up or even starts showing on the screen. Very annoying. But overall it improved the quickness of things.
Exactly! That's a real bummer, because I can usually pound out a message faster on PCMKeyboard than I can with all the lag the hardware keyboard is creating. -- What's weird is that my friends 6700 does this too... I wonder if they are using some ridiculously slow keyboard controller?

Why would you not want the Sprint customizations to run? Do you have some sort of misconception that it's better to skip these?

I didn't see any kind of solution provided. Plus I really don't have the same issue as he does.

Again, why skip them? Out of curiosity...

Re: PSA: Hard-reset your Pro when you get it

Hey Scrap, are the 2 ways of hard resetting you posted on the 1st page seperate options to reset or steps? Like, do we have to "clear storage" and then follow the button procedure?

Re: PSA: Hard-reset your Pro when you get it

Hard resetting by two different methods seems redundant. But what the heck. I'm desperate to fix my piss poor battery life. Must be some kind of glitch, battery life is absurdly short.

It's 2 separate methods to do it, but with the same result.

Re: PSA: Hard-reset your Pro when you get it

Someone asked how to skip the customization, I simply provided a untested response...

I know that some people want to skip them to free up resources, load only the cabs they want, or they don't like TF3D...

Bingo, and I updated the first post.

Gotcha, I just figure people would want the Sprint stuff on there, or they might run into problems. Now, once we have custom ROMs, we will have a better selection of niceties...
