Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

My XV6800 does this regularly if I am trying to talk and charge with the OEM battery, but not with my Seidio extended battery, perhaps due to the increased surface area resulting in better cooling. Maybe a metal battery door with heatsink fins and a layer of arctic silver 5 between the battery and the cover would work better lol

Or I would have to call stores daily to see if they had one in stock for the instore exchange. Not cool. I called back and got a really nice rep who first confirmed that they are aware of the overheating issue. She called HTC directly. Spoke with that rep. What he basically stated was that you would have to manually disconnect the data connection and change all your settings to preserve battery at the cost of performance. I asked him why would the phone behave that way, Ive never had to manually turn off data services. He said this is the way the phone was designed. To which I replied why wouldnt the phone be able to perform within its own design. I got the "thats all i can say" response. SOOOOOO take from this what you can kids...both sides are aware of the issue and this is the response they are giving....unfortunately I might have to part ways with the touch pro....not worth the price
I got the same runaround from Sprint and HTC -- HTC suggested I call their repairs department for the earpiece distortion and the battery heat -- 800-229-1235 is that number

Sprint just suggested i keep trying the stores

Palladium, you are approaching this issue the right way. The data should speak. Since I have the Diamond, I don't have a dog in this particular fight. But I have kept similar statistics and posted them in the Diamond section. My Diamond numbers correspond closely with the ones that you posted - with one glaring exception. When I have data on, but not actively transmitting, I see NO additional battery draw. If you do see that consistently, something is wrong and of course it will kill your battery and probably contribute to your heat problem. My Diamond does not heat up at all.

Maybe something to explore. An inactive data connection should not draw down the battery.

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

I am not noticing any of the issues that everyone has described here except heat, but that to me is within tolorances. (Warm to me.) But the next time I notice it being warm, I will measure the temp with my IR temp guage.

In addition, I had some of these issues with my Treo 700wx AND the PPC6700 when I had them. But as soon as a new official ROM came out with radio updates, then they pretty much all went away.

I say keep an eye on this, complain when we can, and not to get too excited until after the first official ROM is released.

Just my .02

Your are correct with regard to the data connection, BUT if your signal is below some threshold (I have not found any way to read/log the EVDO signal via software but my data card at the same location is showing -85 dB) the radio power draw increase. Not sure why unless it needs to do so to maintain contact with the tower?? (Just speculation on my part here).

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

I was on the phone for 3 hrs today with it on the charger and I had to manually cool the phone down to get it to charge again by placing it near a fan. After leaving it on the charger for 3 hrs while using the phone, I checked the battery life after hanging up and it showed up at 30%. You'd think any phone would be able to charge up fully or 80% in a 3 hr time period. It's just plain silly. I'm waiting on the Sprint "Tape pull request" department to contact me and give me the money the telesales rep promised me, if this doesn't happen that phone is going back to Sprint. I'd be happy to keep my battered A900. I'll just wait for the HTC Quartz (T8290) with WIMAX...hopefully that won't have the same issues.

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

I don't have any of these heat issues. I charge my phone with a couple diffent things. I use the wall charger from my Mogul (charges from 11pm to 5am), the USB cable from my Mogul (charges on my work computer from 730am to 4pm) and a USB cable from my digital camera (charges from my home computer peridoically when I'm home between 5pm and 11pm). I talk ALOT on the phone. most of the time while it's charging. I use BT alot. I don't know if any of you with heating issues use BT or not. I do alot of playing with the phone, internet, and texting.
