because if your attempting to charge your phone while tethering or being on a phone call, the phone will not charge because both of those activities cause the battery to drain more than what is being replenished by the charger (both ac & usb). it happened to me the first couple of days i had my touch pro. i know it sucks but we just have to wait and hopefully a fix will come out soon.

I have never had my old Touch die on me when tethered or when on a call plugged in. Either the Touch Pro uses too much power, the charging system has been gimped, or temperature sensor is too sensitive.

I suppose it could be because I wasn't streaming constantly or bit torrenting like crazy while tethered, so it wasn't always at full load. I guess with normal surfing there is enough idle time for there to be charging time. I haven't had a chance to compare NuepowerCPL readings with the Old Touch yet, but with the Touch Pro, when you are using a Data connection and charging, there is a small net loss in power, so the power use is less than the charging. For some reason, when the phone uses it's radio, the charging current drops from around 530mA(plugged into USB connection) down to about 400mA. I don't know why it does this. It makes no sense for it to drop such a small amount of current. It even drops to the same level no matter the charging current (with the stock charger, the charging current input is around 800mA)

Unless the charging system was purposefully gimped to prevent extended tethering and data use. Perhaps someone can scour through the registry settings to see if there was some kind of addition or change to the charging settings. But if it's in the hardware, I guess we're screwed.

I completely agree. If this isn't fixed it may be the downfall for this phone. I like to make extended length phone calls at night after 9pm when I have unlimited minutes to use. I started a 2 hour phone call at 75% battery, had the phone plugged in the entire time using the stock ac adapter, and about 2 hours in I get the beep and low battery warning. I then had to hurry up my phone call before the whole thing died on me. This is completely unacceptable. Few minutes later, the phone signal turned itself off, then the entire phone too. I unplugged and re-plugged in the ac adapter and noticed that I couldnt even start up the phone because the battery was discharged so much. I needed to allow it to sit for 15 minutes charging before it would let me turn it back on without turning itself back off immediately.
This is unacceptable and also dangerous. What if a phone call was absolutely needed and the battery was low, in the past, all you needed was the usb charger and you'd be good to go. Apparently plugging it in the whole time, isnt enough?! Com'on Sprint, this has got to be fixed!!

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

Those who are having decent or great battery life, what if any settings or mods have u done? My life is terrible. I know GPS is a HUGE drain but i had 90% at noon, then went to a meeting and left at 2:15 and was down to 20%. Even when i dont have GPS or bluetooth on, mine wont last off the charger for more then 2 or 3 hours and if i am on a phone call then it last an hour or less. I have already installed the battery hack and changed my backlight down. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

EDIT- Now it's freakin out and turning off the phone (not the device) when I try to make a call
Well also is it actually charging, I thought mine was too and it wasn't. Go into start, setting, power and make sure that the "When device is turned on, do not charge battery when connected to the PC" is unchecked. I have tethered and streamed while plugged in and never drained horribly.

I think some of you are adding stuff or making adjustments that drain your battery or something. Mine's been off the charger since 7am today, I've been listening to music for 3 hours, spent 1 hour looking for regedit for the keyboard backlight, did about 30 minutes of browsing with Opera, and also did some e-mail and text, and I'm at 80%.
