1) Can this be fixed without a ROM update? I looked in the registry and all of the items/menus in EPST but couldn't find anything close to the 100ms value.

2) The only "refresh" or polling value that I'm aware of is the "slot cycle index". The slot cycle index for Sprint Diamond is set at 2. The forumla for calculating paging channel time is 2^N x 1.28 (where "N" is the slot cycle index). This puts the time at 5.12 seconds (or 5120ms). How is the "radio refresh you mentioned relate (if at all) to this?

I'm a Diamond owner intending to go to Touch Pro, but help here can ease the pain of waiting for the Pro, as I am hoping for at least 24 hours on a charge on the Diamond.

3) Is it true then, since HTC and its affiliates are aware of the incorrect setting on the Diamond, that the Touch Pro will be released with the correct setting and will have BETTER battery life than the Diamond?

Thank you.
1. I currenlty have two people testing out a custom fix on there diamonds

2. Its a reg add so it wouldnt be considered a edit

3. The pro currently does have better battery life, the reason for the short life is due to radio/gps and the heat issue

Thank you for responding. So it is an additional registry entry that would "force" the radio to refresh at 300ms?

On the subject of heat, I made this post elsewhere, please comment:

\/ \/

On the subject of heat-shield: I can't see how the reportedly omitted shield could hurt the battery life. If anything, NOT having a shield and feeling the heat on the outside means that the heat is radiating out and dissipating, which can HELP battery life (lower internal temp). In general, higher temp=higher resistance=more power needed to drive the circuit. This is why superconductors need to operate at very low temps. Unless there is something I'm not seeing, I can live with the heat and would choose to go without the shield.

Thank you again.

Not a problem more then happy to help.

Hey there crit.

Just out of sheer curiosity (since I drive truck for a living), how many Pro's on average are they cramming into a single truck?

"EVP shipments wont go out until Nov 3rd and 4th"

So does that pertain to ALL of the HTC facilites or yours in particular? Which would mean EVP won't be shipping the orders until 5th and 6th. No big deal waited this long what's 2 more days . . .

Thank you again.
The heat shield he is describing is not one to protect YOU from the heat, it is meant to isolate the radio chipset from the battery compartment.

A cooler battery will discharge slower. ALSO, the battery has a protection circuit - once it hits a threshold temp it will not allow charging until it cools. 41*C or so I think.

*edit*

Reading back now, I am a little backwards with my logic. Yes, the heat shield is designed to absorb heat that generally passes through the button pad - but as a result should also have an effect on the overall operating temperature of the device. Anything installed that will potentially wick heat away from the battery will impact the charge lifetime.

Here is a post I made regarding the shield, which is described to be missing from "behind the keypad"...

Quote:
High temps affecting battery performance is academic, but if the shield is behind the keypad, I don't see how it can keep the heat from transfering to the battery. Unless there is an air gap or ventilation, a shield can become a heat sink, which can AIDE in transfering heat from one side to the other.

In any event, when the electronics (lower) portion of the phone gets hot, the battery's temp does not go up significantly. I've run two phones with the covers off, along with various routines, and observed that the battery will mostly increase in temp due to high-drain (CPU, radio transmission, etc.), and not from conductive heat. I spent several hours with an infrared pyrometer measuring both the electronics portion and the batteries and found that the batteries stay relatively cool.
