I am on Ngrs Enery rom with verizon. Do I need to replace my rom as well? Oddly I never had data charges even with using data till i ditched the default rom. It also shows my usage in kb's What is the (I forgot) number used to convert to mb. I have unlimited data plan but I think there's actually a max limit not disclose or so i've heard.

Added Note: I havent tried tethering don't know how. just noticed after a few months service all sudden its showing up data usage.

Which version of Wifi router are you using? This issue has come up before. When I first got the TP2, I used the version posted here at PPCgeeks, but got the same issue you're referring to. Let me guess, it gets stuck at "Connecting Verizon Wireless."

Went over to XDA and found a new version and all is well, internet stays connected for hours on end with not a signal disconnect ever.

I only have:

intshare - 18.4K
IntShrUI - 22.9K
IntShrUI - 37B

Am I fine?

Running stock 6.1 on VZW with ICS fix. Using built-in file explorer set to "show all files"

Just checked my bill, no charges as of yet. Been using HTC WiFiRouter ONLY... NO USB.

Guys, I read through the entire post, and no one seems to have my case.
I have posted it several times before and no one has replied yet so far.

I have a CDMA TELUS that I bought from a friend and using FIDO on it.

I am planing to get the Data plan and worried that this will happen to me. WILL THIS AFFECT FIDO USERS?

So I may be kind of new to the whole tethering thing, and flashing ROMs but I have an idea.

Since I understand that Sprint users are unaffected because the radio doesn't have the tethering call nai inside it, and the VZW and Telus ones do have it allowing the carrier app to work thereby notifying the network we are tethering.

Could the Sprint Radio (the one posted by cmonex and olipro for unlocking the device for GSM US networks) be flashed to a NON-Sprint device? Or could they make a custom radio that has that removed so that any rom used would not be able to notify the carrier network that you are in tether mode?

No, as the radio has nothing to do with whats stored in yoru NV, the sprint users NV memory has no Tethering NAI in it so when the radio tried to call this address in NV they get an error 67, which is radio talk for piss of i ain't got nun here for you.

I was on a sprint radio when i got charged.

My bad. Forgot to mention that this happened to me while using Touch Diamond. Oops, guess I should mention that when posting in a TP2 forum. The point is that this problem may not be device specific.

I'm running the stock ROM. I have the ICS and Modem fix and use HTC WiFiRouter from my programs list.

When I run this program, I don't get any pop-up at all apart from the program.

The last question asks what I am about to (I think, so if someone answers this while I type, sorry....)

I read the entire thread and this issue is touched on, but not quite to reassurance. I have the Stock VZW ROM and I applied the fix in this post http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=78019

So, those of us in this boat are okay?

While I'm writing anyone point me to where I can change the default web prog in ribbon to iexplore not opera? sorry off topic. (never know what to type in search)

How did this come about all of a sudden? Was there some carrier update that everyone downloaded which created this issue?

On that note, can Sprint force some update without my knowledge enabling this tether check? I want to make sure that nothing changes without me knowing about it so I don't get hit.

My ROMs contain only IntShrUI.exe, which is 22.1kb in size. When I first activated my phone, I immediately went into EPST and removed the "dun" from my #@dun.vzw3g.com field. I also removed the OEM package that seems to kill a tethered connection after 5 minutes... can't remember the name of it right now.

I've been tethered for about 1.5 hours so far this morning, and haven't seen any issues. Of course, I won't know for sure until VZW updates my usage for today, sometime tomorrow.

no im asuming your emplyoing the ICS fix or he has already you VZW users seem to use Phone as modem to connect, this was an issue with telus users who used the usb to pc internet sharing popup.

OMG Just checked my data usage and got a god damn nice surprise:
http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/1...datacharge.png

Wow...I can't believe I didn't check this site more often....apparently I got tethering fees since Oct. 31 ](*,)

Installed the fix but got a question for all those who got screwed over:

Any of you guys got your fees waived? or even discounted?
What did you do or who did you talk to (specifically from telus)?

Damn I hope I don't have to pay this, and it seems like I got dinged the worst (second would be mightymike).

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I'll definitely call telus though tomorrow.

EDIT: Just read the fine print in the telus contract
It says TETHERING IS INCLUDED. Doesn't that mean it's included with my unlimited plan?? I can maybe argue that and not be billed for over 2 grand??

Here's the data fine print:
** Additional usage will be charged at $0.05/MB. Cannot combine with any other data plan. Tethering included. Additional data is charged by the MB or GB and is rounded up to the closest KB (1 GB =1,024 MB; 1 MB = 1,024 KB). Data usage is subject to a monthly overage limit of 10 GB.

Good work on finding the issue!

I have a couple of questions:

1. Is this tracker in the stock Telus rom with WM6.0??

I will likely be flashing in a few days.

2. Is this just trackable with Intshr (which had to be installed) or is it still trackable if using it with WMWifirouter in conjuction with Intshr?

1. Dunno what you mean...
2. If you connect your phone to your home wifi network, it's no charge.
3. What tethering is: Connecting your phone to your computer/laptop and browsing internet on your computer using your cellphone's 3G or EVDO (or whatever) network.
So basically using your phone's network to browse on the internet on another device.

Just got off the phone with telus. Apparantly you get a "one-time credit" for data charges of smartphones so if you make a "mistake" they can credit almost all the charges but only for one time.

For my $2000 bill, the tech guy brought it down to $150 + tax so it's pretty good. He said that the reduction in the charges he can give me is ranked depending on how much the total data charge is.

So I'm guessing if you got dinged $1000 for data, they can bring it down to $75-100 for one-time. ($500 -> $25-50, etc)

Damn telus, hopefully this fix will be permanant cause I don't wanna go through all that again and prob pay a couple grand next time.

They now have tethering included plans but I'm not gonna give up my $50 student plan for that...

id get legal on them before i payed a bill that large.

Telus included there tethering app in there usb to pc pop up. its easy to select by accident and the Wmodem app falls to the back drop after a few seconds so this could be an easy mistake even on the stock rom.... not only this. the sales reps didn't inform there customers of the risk of this mistake.

as do most(all?) people here, saves you quite a bit of moolah while on the road though(beats paying for slower but way overpriced hotel/resort/brothel:) charges), as well as using your laptop while driving(dont forget you need to be eating, smoking and flipping other drivers off at the same time as well in order for it to work:))

Except in this case the customer didn't select tethering on accident, he knew exactly what he was trying to do and got busted for it. It was nice of them to lower the charges but there comes a time when a man should take responsibility for his actions. And I'm sure any legal reps from Telus wouldn't have trouble finding this thread or it's users.
