The title may not say it, but, there are BIG BOLD LETTERSin the first sentence of the post, warning the Telus users!

I have looked back the full 90 days on data that Telus allows and I see no issues... I tested tethering via wifirouter on the Canadian Thanksgiving used my ipod to download some apps via my TP2 and quite recently again with in the last few weeks... does the method of tethering make a difference it might be good to post how each of us tether and if we have experienced charges.

Type of tether: wifirouter
Timeline: about 3 weeks ago
Charges incurred?: none

Verizon owners who are receiving that tethering message: Are you using HTC Wifi Router or are you USB tethering?

The message that the Verizon users are getting is only from a proxy.... there is a hack to remove it... someone just posted it within a day or two ago....

I understand your point, but you have to understand that if it can happen to you guys it can more than likely happen on other carriers as well.

Everyone has a vested interest. Besides that, it is nice to confirm that who is affected, so Sprint, Verizon, ATT, etc users posting and contributing helps ;)

Yeah, true, sorry about the jump, I saw that and I freaked out, then I went and looked at my data usage for the past 14 days and saw the charge, I really freaked out at that point. Again, sorry if I snapped at anyone!:???:

As I stated previously... method of tether could be a factor, atleast two of the charged telus users, used the popup on the phone to share the internet via USB.

When I use Wifi, I use the XDA Wifi sharing. I don't like WM Wifirouter. But just its noted as well, I have used the USB connection before with the stock ROM from Telus and never got any charges!

When I tethered I used the HTC Wifi Router, so far without issue however that could just be because I used it before telus got it's new super powers.

I'm on Verizon and tether over USB 5 or 6 times a week to send out work reports that are 500kbs each. Just checked my bill and there are no additional charges. I'm using the same ICS fix I have been using for the last 2 years.

Its very plausible, that there might be a Telus tech support with source code experience in these forums that took the hack, dismantled it and showed it to the higher ups at Telus! Causing this issue with USB tethering charges! You guys can burn me all you want, for that comment, but, I think its a possibility, I NEVER said it was the case!

God this is like the start of the h1n1 virus. Soon it's going to affect us all. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh run for your lives!

On a serious note though I would have expected and am still suspicious about HTC WIFIROUTER. It just doesn't seem practical that HTC would make a program to support getting over on your carrier.

As per the solution in the first post, is there a reg key we need to edit to evade this issue? Or is it something that has to be rectified in OEM packets of the ROMs?

its a file.

i will upload a cab. can you do me a favor tho. what is the file size of intshr.exe in your windows directory. i want a file size so i can give you guy a reference to check to make sure the cab overwrote the garbage tracking file.

So, since Verizon is CDMA, does that mean the detector is is in my 6.1 stock rom? All I ever did was run the ICS sharing cab fix to enable the tethering. Is that why VZN folks have been getting: https://dunsp.vzw.com/selfProvisioni...sioningServlet when they tether?

New size: 24kb

The size of the file in my kitchen is 42.5K
I am using Calk's kitchen, is the size difference good or bad?

got a message from Mighty in his rom thread. i thought i post it here too...

To elaborate a little more.

The main reason why sprint users are not being affected is the following:

Using the USB2PC popup, selecting internet sharing from that list, brings up the carrier (fake) internet sharing. For telus users and verizon users, this actually works, we can connect. For sprint users, you guys get an error 67 issue.

Therefore your forced to use the Internet Sharing within the programs menu, which is infact THE REAL ONE that is supposed to be used.

That's the main reason why Sprint users haven't not been dinged, and Myself and Juggalo have been hit hard for tethering charges. ($1,400 & $200)

I want this to be a black and white fix across the board for my ROM.

I hope all users get off the current ROM immediately when the new version is posted.

thanks for the elaborated message. i hope this message can be posted somewhere so that people using other roms w/ sprint network understand this issue.

so your message finally explained to me why Internet Sharing selected through USB2PC plugin never worked for me. This is the reason why i get Error67 code and would not get that code when I manually select internet sharing through start menu.

thanks again. much appreciated

Man you guys scared me. With the whole alltel vzw takeover I have been nervous with what changes will happen.

So I unplugged my cat5 cable and plugged in my phone. I am posting from it right now.

Is it sad that my cellphone is faster than my dsl?
