oh yah, as far as they know they were on stock rom and just plugged it into there pc to charge.

They might find this thread. But it's users? Noooo.

They'd need some pretty compelling evidence to convince a judge to subpoena all of our names/addresses. And the only thing they would be able to use as evidence is that people have figured out a way to get a service for free and are talking about it online. Nothing else. No IP addresses, account numbers, nothing.

exactly, and the evidence that they put a ticking "billing" time bomb in there stock rom would be compelling. because its the truth they did. oh and of coruse they would have to prove that i wasn't on the stock rom at the time which unless im a moron. they wouldn't never be able to.

Hi, I asked this question on another thread, but it got buried.

If I am using the app Mobile Wi-Fi Router and have my phone acted as a router and have my computer connected to it, would it be detected as tethering as well?

If you use the fix in the first post, you will not have any issues.

Will the ICS Hotfix posted in the First Post work with Sprint TP2 stock ROM to stop the "Error 67" from happening so much with USB tethering?

Or is it just for Telus users?

Is it possible to tether undetected on US Cellular with the TP2?

I'm sure it will be a bit longer before anyone would get a bill for it seeing it just came out.

I hope not. I think that the Error 67 is what keeping Sprint customers from getting charged.

Re: ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢ [WARNING] - Tethering Users ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢

From what I understand, the 67 error was because of Telus' need to completely change the way the phone communicates with tethering. Sprint's network doesn't understand Telus' pathetic new parameters and doesn't know how to connect. I don't think Sprint even has a plan to actually run the charges if you're caught using the protocol Telus used to trap the people abusing tethering.

Firstly: Mike's taking a dag-on 1,300 charge up the *** and has only gotten 5 thanks on the first page... WTF GUYS?

Secondly: I've been using Mobile Wi-Fi Router on Mike's ROM. (I know someone above just posted this, but I'm guessing they're on a stock rom.) Anyway, I've used 3-4GB of data with this alone. Am I safe, or should I go ahead and list my house on Ebay?

(...And yes, I tried to tether with it maybe 5 times via a USB cord and got the VZW WEP page each time, so i figured that I must've screwed up a setting... I'm just hoping WiFi Router was safe.) X_X

Quick Question guys. I just picked up a TP2. I am running the Stock Sprint ROM for right now. Can I just use the hotfix and get internet sharing back with no charges?

If thats the case, After I run the hotfix, do I need to launch the internet sharing app from the start menu first, and then connect my USB, or can I just use the little quick feature that pops up once I connect my cable?

Tethering - tested and works

1 - using file explorer go to Windows\Start Menu\Programs - delete internect connection sharing

2 install - ICS_and_WModem_Fix cab

3. using a regedit program

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll" entry

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
MaxCMCon=0

[HKLM\Services\CMGuardian]
Flags = 4 (it's a DWORD Value. if it doesn't exist. you need to create it)

4 - soft reset
5 - Start the Internet Sharing application.
6 - Select Sprint under type of connection.
7 - Hit Connect In the Internet Sharing application.
8 - Connect to the Laptop/PC via USB
9 - Done. No other applications needs to run on the PC/Laptop.

I keep getting an 'access denied' whenever I try to implement the changes listed above. I can get to the device but I cannot save any changes. Any suggestions?

Thx

Boo Boo,
This was the only thing that I could get to work for my tethering on my Stock Sprint TP2 rom.

I first tried this: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=78019
Installed the cab, and did soft reset.
I was still getting error 67, from using both the quick link from the USB2PC menu that pops up when you plug in the cable as well as when I went to the Internet Sharing app in the start menu. Even after changing the connection from "Phone as modem" to "Sprint"

So, I downloaded the "hot fix" that is at the very first post in this thread, soft reset, and tried again with the same results (error 67). I tried using the Internet sharing app in the start menu, as well as the quick link from the USB2PC popup app.

I then uninstalled the "hot fix", and followed the directions from Boo Boo I quoted above, I am able to tether succesfully from both the USB2PC popup link, and the Internet Sharing link from the start menu.

I will check my data usage on sprint in a few days to see if I get dinged with tethering charges. Can anyone confirm that Boo Boo's method is "safe"?

Re: ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢ [WARNING] - Tethering Users ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢ ☢

I am on Sprint. My "Internet Sharing" works, but I have to go through a few steps to get it to work. Those steps are as follows:

1. Open Browser
2. Open "Internet Sharing"
3. Plug USB cable
4. Choose "Active Sync" from popup
5. Select "Connect" in "Internet Sharing"

Is there a way to replace the file that the USBtoPC popup uses to open "Internet Sharing" with the one in "Programs" so that I don't have to go through all the steps mentioned above.

I'm asking this because I don't want to install the hot fix if its not broken.

thanks,

from what i understand, after the reg tweaks, he shouldn't need it because the issue only started with an updated version of pam that was being cooked into custom roms

I'm not seeing a lot of the VZW crap this post reffers to, is it possible verizon changed something? I just got my TP2 today and I have no internet sharing icon in my programs menu. I do have Modem Link which points to-
\windows\DMRouter.exe /VZACC
I went into the windows folder with total commander and found IntShrUI.exe which was dated 3/16/09 and is 21.8k in size and also found and IntShrUI.lnk.

I just installed the latest version of wmwifirouter and when I used it's usb tethering feature it worked great with no redirect to any VZW page. I found no file named IntShr.exe as stated on the first page of this post. There was an obscure DUN entry below the #777 entry but I deleted it before I wrote down the name.

I don't have any HTC WiFiRouter on my programs list either.

I think I may have a newer ROM or something.

Is my IntShrUI.exe OK then? What's up with this Modem Link program, is that the VZW rat?

So, I guess just cross my fingers and check my bill in a few days?

EDIT: I did read al 20 pages of this and my head hurts so pleae forgive me if I missed something :O

update- Using WMwifirouter was a little buggy. I tried launching the IntShrUI.exe by itself and it was a little buggy too. It would connect and immediately disconnect. I installed the hotfix cab posted here and that did the same thing. I uninstalled the hotfix, then I installed the attached cab that i found here a while back and it seems to have overwritten IntShrUI.exe with one that's dated 1/13/08 and is 22.9 kb. This cab was also nice enough to install a shortcut on my programs menu, the original shortcut that I found in the windows folder was locked up with some attributes that wouldn't let me use it. Now tethering seems like it's OK. I guess I'll practice acting dumb and check my bill over the next few days.

wondering if anything can be done to improve tethering while Data Roaming in 1x areas? I was at my parents' last week, brought my laptop......I tethered my TP2 with the laptop, man it was painfully slow. I tried to download a custom rom, 7 hrs was the estimated download time if I wanted to proceed...........just wondering if there are any tweaks to improve this or is it just that way while in 1x?

If the "dun" entry you deleted was VZW Embedded GSM... You deleted your data connect line required for some programs that connect via the GSM line....
