Re: dear chefs:nobody is willing to cook 6.1 anymore? ! the forum misses 6.1

dunno if anyone already posted this, didnt feel like reading five pages but there is ONE kitchen available RIGHT NOW that you can custom cook a 6.1 ROM. Scrosler's SSK kitchen has the option of cooking a ROM using the stock 6.1 build (21052). So basically you can custom tailor the stock ROM using or taking out whatever options you want.

I used his rom for over a year on my TP1

No, you are just completely wrong. I'm not sure who these "people" are that you think were fired from the WM6.5 team, but who the heck do you think keeps releasing the latest builds of WM6.5 and the new WM6.5.1 branch?

The WM7 team is not the same as the WM6.5+. I'm not sure where you are getting your information from, but it is just wrong. Changes in management is a common thing with large projects and no doubt MS has had problems getting WM7 out the door, but I'm not sure what that has to do with WM6.5's UI.

Sounds to me you just don't care for WM6.5 (fine) but are are also looking for external support from authority to back up your opinion ("They were fired! So it must be bad!)". It's a fallacious argument.

IE is a part of WM6.5. Can you uninstall it and .cab it up for a WM6.1 device?

Either way it is still a huge shift for Microsoft in terms of strategy and having those apps built in goes a long way in extended user functionality.

Well, that's your opinion. I disagree. And I bet programmers will disagree with you also. I also like all the little UI enhancements, including my "replied to" message in my emails. There's a lot of subtle changes that make WM6.5 arguably a more feature-complete and enhanced experience of WM6.1.

Once again, please cite a single source for this claim of people being "fired". Because it is false. So you don't like the UI in WM6.5, fine. I honestly can't imagine anyone, out of the box, preferring A to B:

Really? You think WM6.1 is a winning strategy for Microsoft in 2009? That is actually looks better?

They launched/re-launched 30 phones on Nov 6th with WM6.5. In the U.S. you have Imagio, Pure, Tilt 2 and Intrepid.

This is just, and no offense, a dumb point. Obviously with every new WM6.5 device that is launched, your "argument" withers. Having the Pure and Intrepid myself, I can tell you that the out-of-box experience is way better than WM6.1.

No, once again I have two WM6.5 devices: Pure and Intrepid. I speak from experience, you speak from a soapbox.

Neither my Pure or Intrepid have custom ROMs either. Even my Treo Pro has just a stripped down & clean WM6.5 build, no custom UI.

Once again, you don't like WM6.5 so don't use it. Last I checked your phone has WM6.1 so sounds like you're already set. I'm not sure why you are trying to convince myself or others that WM6.5 isn't a worthy upgrade--I have 6 devices running it (Snap, Intrepid, Ozone, Pure, Touch Pro 2) and I've used the TG01, Imagio and other high profile devices with it--I think WM6.5 is really good. It's not the best thing in the world, but a step in the right direction.

Well, obviously your opinion. If you don't like WM so much (or like using last year's OS), I'm not sure why you are even here. So MS isn't always on top of things and WM6.5 isn't as nice of a UI overhaul as WM6.5.1--they had time constraints and WM7 delays to contend with.

So don't use it. Grab a kitchen and make a vanilla WM6.1 ROM, what's stopping you?

Re: dear chefs:nobody is willing to cook 6.1 anymore? ! the forum misses 6.1

Well, I've got a stock rom with tons of tweaks and cabs installed, but what I would like is a ROM that a slimmed down stock ROM with most of the common tweaks and cabs, (ICS and such).

My first ROM that I ever flashed on a phone (did PSPs and other devices before) was a DCD ROM on my mogul, I had no idea what I was doing, but GPS had just come out, but wasn't available with the stock ROM. So I searched, how to get GPS with mogul and followed the instructions.

I used that for about a year and never really had any problems untill the keyboard lag started getting bad, then decided I needed to have ICS and thought I needed to flash a newer custom rom to get it, plus I thought that would fix the keyboard lag, you know start fresh.

At that point I was trying different custom ROMS frequently, looking back now, I realize that the newer ROMS for the mogul with manila were too much for it handle and that just having a today screen instead of manila, it ran much smoother.

I bought the TP2 so I could have a mogul on steroids, specially after using a touch pro. Now that I know the TP2 and the TP processor are the same, I'm probably gonna upgrade asap to the next generation phone that is faster. Where as I thought I would keep this phone through the end of another generation, as my mogul had made it through the TP generation and barely died a couple of months before the TP2 came out.

Right now I turn on my phone and I'm at 43%, I did install the "free up memory" cab and maybe did a registry tweak aimed specifically at memory. As I go through and read posts of people who installed, people are saying they are running anywhere from 50-80%.

Somebody was saying that they were at 80% but they didn't care becasue it ran smooth? Doesn't that use up battery faster and make the phone hotter? What happens when you use a bunch of programs or run an SNES emulator?

I guess it's still early and bugs need to be worked out for alot of ROMs, I just don't have the time to have my phone down a lot right now. Which means that if I flash it will be late at night and that means less sleep.

So I may consider JD's rom, Juicy's or SSK. It's not that big of a deal for me to goto 6.5, but I know that the phone works pretty good the way it is. Are any of these going to keep me in the 40% range?

you're only going to bust a blood vessel dealing with people arguing 6.1 is better then 6.5. it doesn't make any sense and they have nothing to back their arguments. 6.1 isn't better then 6.5 and anybody who says so is just wrong. if 6.1 was better microsoft wouldve stuck with it, so obviously 6.1 is worse, and whoever thinks otherwise is wrong and very much a minority.

lol, oh I agree 100%. I just had to get it out there on the record. More for my own sanity than to convince others

I'm not saying wm 6.5 isn't better than 6.1. I'm saying it's a giant disappointment. Which you all know it is.

Geez, your statement and your previous statements are all very subjective and you are making them out to be fact. They are YOUR opinion, others will disagree. That does not make them wrong or you right. I think this is where you are running into resistance from people.

6.1 os better and faster in all means .6.5 is only a stepping stone into 7.

Heck, I've seen some WM6.5.1 builds that are faster than WM6.1.

Are you kidding me? I've flashed dozens of roms on the Touch Pro, and 6.1 has been faster in every way.

For the TP2, I still think the Sprint rom is faster than my current 6.5 rom, and is more stable too.

I'd rather have a nice, fast, stable 6.1 and sacrifice some "finger usability" and bugs that are in many 6.5 roms. I don't want to have to soft reset every day.
