Re: TP2 + Garmin XT

I think Garmin XT is the best GPS package for use in phones - and in short, casual situations where you don't have phone coverage.

I would NEVER depend on XT in my phone for longer periods out of phone range, where getting lost would be more serious. Phones are fragile, etc, etc. In those situations, I always use a handheld Garmin unit, and take a lot of rechargeable AA batteries.

Not sure if I'm one of the "nuts" you refering to.

But if so, my comment above was not directed at the suitability of the XT SW for hiking, etc - yes, it's just fine for that. My comment was directed at the suitability of a relatively fragile phone with a very fragile screen for rugged use where you are truly relying on GPS to get home.

Peace.

i use mine all day in a car holder on my windshield. no problem at all. as for fragile if you smash it maybe. ive dropped mine a few times still works fine. no scratches or dings. all in how you treat it.
