I didn't read this whole thread, but this is actually the cause. Water gets between the screen and the plastic and causes this.

Easily reproducible by doing exactly as sammich has said. I've done it on my Diamonds as well.

That may be one way, but I know for a fact that I have never had mine in humidity like that or wet, and I still ended up with the problem...

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

I have it on my TP2, had it only about 3 months. I think the moisture from the skin on your cheek, or the sweat if you use the phone outside on a hot day, will contribute to the rainbow bands. I know here in Houston, it doesn't take long at all to start perspiring if you have something against your skin and its a warm day.

I also got the rainbow bands on my TP1. I always use the handset, never bluetooth, so maybe that should be part of the poll? I just received a (brand new in box) replacement TP2 due to the screen getting cracked when i dropped the device. Let's see how long this pretty screen lasts!

Maybe I should try dropping mine so I can get a new screen!

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

Just as an update, I did successfully get a replacement phone through a regular Verizon warranty replacement, even though I do have insurance. This was also despite being told by a couple different reps that it was water damage that was my fault. I just called back and said that my screen wasn't responding normally anymore. I had to go through about 15 minutes of uselss troubleshooting steps with him, but he did send out a replacement. My new billing cycle started about three weeks after the replacement, and there was no extra charge or anything on my bill.

So, if anyone is trying to get this resolved, that's what worked for me!

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

Just happened to my phone two days and got worse and now its the whole screen. Im just nervous about having problems replacing it because it got a little wet back in October but its was fine and nothing happened to it but the sensors tripped. Extended warranty i pay monthly better cover this!

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

i had the same issue in the same shape...resistive touch screens are made of 2 pieces. when they touch, that is how your phone recognizes the touch. the upper screen is pressed against the lower screen causing this effect. i had the same issue and the store wouldnt fix it. i had to call *2 and they sent me a new phone.

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

This issue is caused by heat... I play paintball on Sundays and I leave my phone in the car so it doesn't get damaged. The car does get real hot because of the place where it is left. Its now the 3rd time between TP1's and TP2's that after seeing the rainbows on the screen I have come back to the car only to see it leak out of the sides or corner making the screen not work. You see a totally dark area while phone screen is off. It has never happened anywhere other than in the car. I will have to look into other places to leave it while I play....
