Wirelessly posted (HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint): Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)

i was given a brand new replacement by sprint but 1 previous was a few months old & had the rainbow banding ... i noticed it after applying my phantom skinz(excellent btw!) screen protector & just thought it was a little moisture from the install but nahhhh

It happens to resisitve touch screens when the screen and/or the touch sensor warp and causes the light to refract between the two screens. The warping can be caused by excessive pressure, overheating, etc.

This is not going to be specific to a certain carrier, screen protector, etc. It is completely dependent on it's individual handling. It is most probably caused on the TP2 due to overheating from the battery while charging or during heavy use.

If you see this you will have to exchange your device eventually as the screen will begin messing up and finally stop working.

Hope this helps.

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

so it happens from excessive heat and/or moisture? Never had this happen on any of HTC's but i always used screen(and usually full body) protectors as soon as devices came out of the box though

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

Sprint saw mine and wouldn't replace it due to the issue being "cosmetic"

If you have insurance on your phone and it's screwy you can get it replaced with a TP2 without it touching your upgrade eligibility. Even though you're getting a different phone, it isn't new (refurbished), and you can still upgrade whenever. It's how I got my TP2. Had to send in my TP1, but don't miss it, even as a back-up.

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

*Update* My digitizer finally totally crapped out, causing my phone to randomly dial out and open different programs until I powered off. When I powered back on, the screen did not respond to my touch at all. I took it back to the Sprint store, and got an immediate swap out since they didn't have any screens in stock to replace mine with. We'll see how long this one lasts

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

Simply amazing.

My first TP2 got the rainbow banding after 2 months ... I took it to the Sprint Repair shop, where they told me it was from excessive moisture.

Sprint sent me a refurbished unit; only to realize that HALF of the keyboard would light up. Sprint apologized and sent me a brand new model - only THIS model is also experiencing the same issue ... despite the fact that I've been keeping it away from moisture, steam, etc ...

Now Sprint is telling me its from pressure; pushing on the screen too much ... and that I shouldn't keep it in my pocket?

We'll see if phone #4 will work out better.
