Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

I've had this problem for awhile on my TP2 and oddly enough, it just wiped away.
Yeah, I've been having this 'rainbow banding' appear across the top portion of my screen. I just went to take a picture of it to post here and oddly enough, it's gone. I figured that my screen protector was insulting my screen thus causing it to cook from the most inside layer out, though all the TP1 owners are saying different.

I really can't believe that my banding is actually gone. I noticed that the screen protector magnified the scale of the banding, but it was surely on the screen itself. When I cleaned my TP2 just moments ago to remove all the build up for a clean looking picture, my banding vanished.
Two weeks ago I did go to Sprint to see if I could get my phone replaced and discuss upgrading to the EVO, when I was actually denied replacement even though I have the $5 a month insurance plan. I become very discouraged with their CSR and their reason for not covering it was that it didn't effect the phones usage. So if this was a rare problem, they would probably cover it no problem. But it seems that this is fairly widespread, to the point that they aren't replacing damaged TP2s because so many are having this issue.

Sprint's customer service has really been getting to me as of lately. I feel like as client I am entitled to some sort of help when I have a problem with either their network or my device. Though sadly the only thing they are ever able to offer me is a hard reset or a polite "sorry, sucks to be you".
I personally would just be happy if my phone wasn't freezing every day and I didn't have to wait 6 months for an outdated OS update.

I doubt I'll ever see an official 6.5.3 ROM from Sprint. :/

If any other Sprint customers actually do get their phones replaced for this issue, if you could post any proof I'd greatly appreciate it. I could probably use this thread if anything.

In the mean time, this issue is nothing new. I remember long ago someone posting in the Android board wondering if this issue was caused by the booting of 2.1 off an unofficial Android handset.

Check out this thread here.
Same thing, the only difference is he refers to it as "Newton's Rings". I personally thing it has a better ring to it then "Rainbow Banding".

It looks like Kern417 linked to this thread there. I also noticed that the model in question is the European TP2, so this seems to be a general problem. Not linked to carriers or region.

Here's the picture from the thread.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY PHONE

I still highly think this has to do with the screen protector.
I mean when I took mine off and cleaned in between both the protector and the screen my 'Rainbow bands' disappeared. I possibly am just looking at this in the wrong light, it's dark out right now but tomorrow I'll give it a check.

So, any ideas?

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

I've got the exact same banding and have never once had a screen protector on the phone. I've had it for 5 months or so and I keep it in a seido innocase. It's never been squished in a pocket... the only pocket it's ever gone in is a suitcoat pocket and that's lined with microfiber or silk. It did start after I was on the phone a lot one day and the phone got hot and I was sweating (at the airport). I figure I'll be taking it to the repair store near me in a few weeks if it doesn't stop working. Then I can work on getting them to let me upgrade to an evo.

Its supposedly "pressure" being applied to the screen. My pockets are loose WHEN my phones in them (usually I keep it in the cup holder of my car, or the drawer in my desk at work...

I hate blaming pockets or screen protectors, since none of my friends who run other smart phones run into this issue

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

Ok so I saw this thread pop up and wanted to state something.

Everyone on here always blames my 2 issues with rainbow banding to me putting my phone in my pocket.

Well I took my TP2 in to VZW (broken charging port pin) and while I was waiting, I noticed there was an LG Dare sitting on the counter that the employee was working with. The LG Dare had rainbow banding on it as I saw it sitting there. Now I had the LG Dare for well over a year, ALWAYS kept it in my pocket, and NEVER once had the slightest rainbow banding.

When I keep my TP2 in my pocket, after about a month and a half, my TP2 is bound to get the banding.

Now what would cause the difference between the Dare and TP2 to not have rainbow banding in my case? They were both used the exact same way everyday.

Does it come down to the larger screen? the higher heat? HTC's faulty manufacturing?

Im clueless as to how I am so prone to rainbow branding on my TP2 after a month and a half and never had one single issue in over a year on my Dare.

Ideas?

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

Went to the repair store they said sorry we can't do anything about this issue because it happens to "all" of these phones...

So I called up *2 and talked to the rep for a while and they are going to give me a $100 credit to cover my deductible from Asurion! So my replacement phone will be on its way should have it by Tuesday. Do you know if they will be mailing a nib or a refurb if I had to pay the $100?

Re: Does your screen show Rainbow Banding?

So, I've been dealing with the rainbow banding for a while now... Not sure if it's linked to it, but this weekend, things got much worse. a little black hole appeared and rendered my touch screen totally inoperable. the hole seemed to get a bit larger throughout the day. i brought it into a sprint repair center and i should have a new (refurb) unit tomorrow. hopefully that one has less issues. *crosses fingers*
