For this reason they are not giving out refurbed Touch Pros anymore....but instead are upgrading people to the Touch Pro 2 instead. My new Touch Pro 2 will be available for pickup tomorrow :)

it's true just left the sprint store and they offered me 5 different phones to choose from with the tp2 being one of them my tp2 will be ready for pick up on wed

Well I just left the store and told them about the issues I am actually having with the phone. I duplicated a few of the bugs with the text messages and all he said they could do was hard reset (which they are doing now) and sent me on my way. He said the bugs were due to Windows Mobile and not the actual phone. Should I call Customer Care directly?

Well I went to the sprint store yesterday and they said instead of trying to fix my phone they'd order me a new model which would be there Tuesday. My fingers are crossed its a touch pro 2 but we'll see. I don't have insurance.

Do you know for sure if they managed to order a refurbed unit for you? It seems like the consensus is that refurbed units can't be ordered since they're OOS

It's hard to tell because stock fluctuates randomly. They may have not been able to order this morning, but this evening may be a different story. It seems like they'll have more stock in a couple days.

Just got off the phone with customer care. The rep told me that we are in fact able to get the phone replace with ones mentioned in the list. But they are currently out of tps and do not know when they will get some more. The rep offered to call me back on wednesday and let me know if they are in stock or not. If so, they will glady order it but if not I have the option to get another phone from the list , a replacement tp, or continue waiting.

Wow, good luck.
Are most of those getting the TP2 as replacements using their TEP?

I am not sure. When the rep told me I could get a replacement phone other than tp, they never mentioned anything about TEP. But I do have it on my account so maybe it was kind of just assumed.

We just need to keep each other notified on when they get in stock. They seem to be going fast so that information would be of great help. I will keep you guys posted on my status.

Dammit! I JUST bought a TP2 from eBay a few days ago and have been using it for a couple days now.

I've previously gotten my old TP replaced 3 times, and I still have the phone.

Should I re-activate my old TP, sell the new TP2, and hope that my old TP breaks again soon so I can get a "free" TP2 (the old TP is already pretty messed up - right D-pad doesn't work well)?

well if you activated your new tp2 then it may be hard to do this... it will be in the system that you had the tp2 so fighting to get a free one can be hard... not saying it cant work but you have to get lucky and get a dumb rep.

you have to have a problem that CANT be fixed on your phone in order to get a new phone and an upgrade.

i had a problem on my pro that couldnt be fixed from what the tech told me . it was a software issue HTC knew about and was working on. but i couldnt wait since i needed my phone to work right.

What kinds of problems qualify as not fixable? Would something like the screen orientation sensor going bad count? I've had to get my TP entirely replaced 3 times - I would assume that getting something entirely replaced would mean the problem wasn't fixable?

hey in the convo you can hear the first rep say were not offering the Advance option anymore then on the 3rd convo he gets the advance option with the tech support super. So theres alot of people at sprint customer service acting really ignorant.

Everything went Kosher to the max after that........................................
Hopefully that guy gets his TP2 when they restock

i had my pro replaced 3 times but not all for the same thing... if they fix the SAME thing 3 times and it brake again then yes you may be good to jump to the tp2

Went into a Sprint Service Center. Was offered every BlackBerry in the lineup, no TouchPro2. I have a call into the manager, hoping for a reversal. They said they put an order in for a new Touch Pro for me. DRAT. Oh well. I just want a phone that works. :)

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

weird the would offer you a blackberry when they have to give you something comparable to the phone you have, tp2 in this case.

they can go with the new tp but you can fight it. you have to be nice of course but you can tell them you have had way to maybe problems with the pro and you want to get its replacement. i was offered a discount to jump to the pro from the mogul, meaning i had to pay to change from a phone that was giving me problems. i pushed a little harder and the manager said ok..... got a brand new pro for free and without upgrading my account.

it can be done, you just have to push them

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

I know this is off topic but does anyone know if they are still replacing diamonds with diamonds? How long until they replace them with something else and what would they replace them with? I have a touch pro 2 now but it has the banding in the screen so I'm sending it back using the 30 day return policy to avoid getting a refurbished device back but if I can get my diamond replaced by something fancier than just the diamond I'd be willing to settle for that.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

I think I'm a bit confused and need some clarification:

When you guys say "you called them" who's "them?" The local Sprint Store, Asurion tech support, Sprint tech support?

Ex.

Bought the TP from eBay and enrolled it into the Sprint Total Protection Plan.

First TP gets exchanged because of screen orientation sensor dieing.
Second TP gets exchanged because keyboard stopped working.
Third TP gets exchanged because the backlight doesn't turn off.
Now the fourth TP needs exchanging because the D-pad doesn't work.

You've got the Sprint Total Protection Plan.

You call up your local Sprint store that you've been going to all this time for replacements and start complaining about how this is the fourth time you've needed to replace the TP.

Does the Sprint store then offer you a TP2 upgrade right in the store? Or order one on your behalf?

The Sprint store was of no help to me so I called Sprint Customer Service (*2 from a sprint mobile device)

you have to take the phone to a store where a tech can look at the phone. the tech then will say what can be done to the phone. if nothing can be done then you can get the phone replaced

would work the same way if you get a new one and you have a problem again.... i would always go to the store for this...

the tech has to look at the phone

in my case, when i jumped from the mogul to the pro i was given the phone at the store. when i had my pro replaced for a new pro it had to be order at the store

Ok, so basically it's what you would normally do to get a phone replaced under TEP.

1. Phone breaks.
2. Asurion tells you to take it to a Sprint store.
3. Sprint store tech looks at the phone, says, yeah, it's FUBARed.
4. Orders you a new phone, tells you to keep your old phone until the new one comes in which is when you'll exchange it and he'll activate the new phone for you.

The TP is still on the Sprint website and when I had to replace my defective TP about a month ago I received a new in the box TP. I currently have an issue with the radio not turning on after a re-boot. This happened to me twice in a row yesterday. It sounds like a defective phone and I am going to take it to the nearest Sprint repair store to see what can be done. If it does need to be replaced I will ask for the TP2 and report back with my findings. Thanks to everyone who has alerted the rest of us to this favorable turn of events.

Hey guy, Try it. I got mine replaced free. I'm taking my wife's tomorrow because the over heating and screen freezing.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

This is 100% accurate. The TP1 had major issues with the stock rom. Sprint didnt update the rom from 2-09. The battery life is horrific. The browsing experience was worse than mogul. The heating and tf3d bugs and the kb issues are frequent. Text lag sucks...

I spent countless hours trying to get mgmt to own up too the many defects in the device. I was told there were others too.. who went to the top to point out what most end users dont see. The tp2 rocks. Ty sprint your cheap plans and excellent customer service made me a life-customer. $129 for 2 phones unlimited data/text 1500 shared mins. navigation etc etc!!

Me and my partner love these new devices and thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

The pro 1 was promising, but highly defective. All the defects have been solved with the pro 2 except camera flash. However I have a good digital camera so the phone camera is no big deal for me. I'm definitely a fan of the pro 2 and htc. After all the time I waited this year for this phone I must admit that Sprint will earn so much respect if they get the HD2!

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

ok guys....if you want to get something done here's what you need to do. especially if you've already been to the repair center near you. call in. go straight to cancellation department. once there...there are key words to use..."iphone" is a big one. and "if this is how you're gonna treat me as a customer" and "is this the way u stand behind your customers and your product?" the first person in retentions won't be able to do much for you. heck, i had the csr try to get me to purchase a 4th line of service and buy the new phone! i was like WTF!!! anyway, once you've spent a couple minutes to them ask to speak with a manager. they'll put you on hold, come back and try to offer you something else, and be persistent that you want to talk to manager. DO NOT let them take your number and call you back. stay on hold. the retentions manager has the power to do whatever. if it doesn't work the first time....hang up mad as hell and call back and try again. i have had service for 7 years so i was able to throw that out there too.

solarflarex 10-12-2009 12:08 PM

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

You should be able to take it into a repair center and get a replacement. The phone people will get you no-where. If that doesn't work send an email to the CEO. That is what I did.

I had thought that they only did this for me, but now that I have seen this post and remember some of the conversations I had with the executive team. It seems like they worked out some sort of deal with HTC. Maybe if a customer raises enough stink and will cancel service they will replace it.

The TP1 has many manufacturing defect/design issues. The battery doesn't even live up to spec. It is fairly recent that they replaced my touch pro with a tp2. (just over a week ago) so news may be getting out to the sprint locations slowly too...

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

I just visited a repair center in Louisville with a non-funtional touchscreen on my Pro (along with a list of other problems, ie: freezing, overheating, lights refusing to turn off, screen peeling), and the rep lied right to my face about the replacement options. According to her, I could order another refurb unit, or opt to replace it with the Snap or the Treo Pro..... no TP2, no blackberry, nothing but those two. So I'm now on the line with Sprint customer service and they seem willing to help. We'll see how it goes. :???:

EDIT: So after speaking with Technical Support and the Multiple Device Replacement departments, they would not budge.. I can replace my current refurb with another refurb, or go back to the store and take a downgrade to the snap or treo pro. Guess I'll keep trying after my blood stops boiling. I don't even have a working phone at the moment, and I'm having to use Skype to make calls.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

OK so i just got off the phone with my local indirect dealer. Was informed that you can swap the device for a TP2, Snap , Tour, 8330 and there were a few others. At first he was like huh touch pro then i said HTC touch Pro and he was like of ya here is the list. He also informed me that there is currently a shortage in the warehouse of devices. Exact wording was as soon as i hit submit i got an error stating the warehouse was currently out of stock. So if any of you are told this they arent lying. Im pretty sure unless the store has a TP1 in stock they will not replace it nor order a replacement TP1. This information has came direct from sprint corporate. The indirect i deal with is uber cool and never lies.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

The hardware kybd is now out permanently on my TP1. I have pulled it apart several times to reseat the kybd ribbon cable, but now that doesn't even work. A few questions before I try my hand at getting a TP2 here in Dallas (Lewisville actually):

1. I assume that I should DEFINATELY get Merdinh's 6.5 ROM *off* of my phone, go back to the stock Sprint ROM, and re-lock, otherwise the repair center is liable to say that the ROM is the reason that the kybd isn't working. So I need to do this for sure, right?

2. I had a similar situation *right* when the TP1 came out, where the end key had stopped working on my Mogul, and I had no idea about the timing, I just blindly took it in for exchange, since I have the TEP. They sent me to the repair store, and when it couldn't be repaired, they said "your new TP1 will be here next week, and we'll cal you when it comes in." I was surprised that they upgraded me like that. Is Sprint able to easily tell at a glance that my TP1 was procured because of a defect in my original phone? If so, should this make any difference as far as the outcome, since I have TEP?

3. Will the repair tech be able to tell that I've taken the screws out of my TP1 several times to reseat the kybd ribbon cable? Obviously I won't mention this, but if he brings it up, should I own up to it?

4. Anyone know if the (most commonly available, unbranded) desktop charging cradle for my TP will fit the TP2?
