HTC Wifi router has less features but is a bit more straight forward..would most likely work on any wm device...wm wifi router has been developed for quite a while and has more features and options and better encryption.

For general purposes HTC Wifi router is good enough...

Whats getting hot is not really the phone but the battery itself..this happens because wifi consumes large amount of energy and it charges at the same time..so charging + large consumption = heat

I would suggest either placing it on a metal surface to aim a fan at it..the TP2 also has ways of handling heat by shutting off charging temporarily back and forth in rotation

as for tethering..did you get this?

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=78019

1) Enable Tethering Stealth Mode - Hook your phone to your pc and use it as a modem undetected.
(SIM card must be inserted into phone)

I guess I will stick to usb most of the time. I hate to see that temperature going into the 40's C. That going on for a while definitely can't be good for yr battery

If you place your phone on a metal surface the temperature won't get so high..the metal will act as a heatsink for the baattery

not ALL metal displaces heat the same way.. Copper and Stainless Steel are 2 of the best though.. ie - this is why both metals are used with cooking supplies, heat displaces more evenly than say, cast iron(old school)...

i have a 6"x6" piece of slate that i use... Slate(obviously not a metal) is wonderful at displacing heat.. i take pans out of my oven, set it on my slate table and within 2minutes or less i can pick that pan up bare handed that just came out of a 450 degree oven..
