Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Had to pull my battery to reapply Ghost Armor tonight and after my 2 hour dry time, popped the battery back in and was stuck at 1X again. Took two reprogramming calls, battery pulls, soft resets, turned around three times, sacrificed a chicken and I'm back in 3G. I seem to be OK until I pull the battery.

Damn that suck that a chicken had to die to get 3G working again haha.

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

I've been thinking that Opera Mini 4.2's servers or somewhat on their end was running slow. I'm now thinking it's the same problem you guys are having, and yes, I have been noticing that my TP2 is in 1x where my Titan was always in 3g. It's annoying as hell, especially since I'm paying $30 for the service.

There also seem to be instances where I'll be browsing the web (in Opera Mini 4.2) and it'll be crawling when loading, so I back out and check and it says I'm in 3g, but no way would it be moving that slow if I was really in 3g. Maybe even half the time we're seeing 3g we're still in 1x.

Food for thought.

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Apart from sacrificing small animals when you end up stuck in 1X land, I found another trick that worked at least twice now after multiple soft resets and *228's didn't.

Dial ##778, choose Edit, enter unlock code (000000).
Go to View Info -> Home Sid/Home Nid
Select Home Sid/Nid #1.
Click Menu, Edit.
No Need to change anything.
Click OK.
Click OK in upper right hand corner.
Should get "EPST, press OK to reset the device".
If all goes well, you will reboot into 3G.

I didn't have the half hour free to talk to Verizon that it seems to require this time. Hopefully the next occurrence I will so we can get to a more permanent solution. This is ridiculous.

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Well I decided to try and open up a trouble ticket with Verizon regarding this issue, but the rep I talked to said he would just note everything I told him about the problem and pass it along to technicians so they could assess it. Fingers crossed.

Luckily or unluckily, I'm able to consitently reproduce the problem, since at work I have perfect 3G and at home I'm in a fringe area. After leaving work, my phone will be in 3G/EV until I get home. Then, after the phone times out/goes to sleep, upon waking it'll have switched to 1X, where it stays no matter if I move back into a 3G area.

The only way I'm now able to get back on 3G is to do a *228 option 2. I can no longer simply reset the phone.

I like the phone too much to return it and wait on another device. Hopefully Verizon/HTC/You Guys can come up with a fix for, what is for me, a minor annoyance.

P.S. 8notime, did you still need testing on receiving 1X calls while using data or are you good with that?

I'm good on the testing piece. I've learned that Verizon has the capability to interrupt a 1x data session to put a call through, so that's expected behavior.

The way you are able to duplicate the problem is interesting. Being in downtown Seattle, maybe it's a little more rare for me to get 1x, explaining why the pattern for this happening is so random.

I received my replacement TP2 yesterday, and after the initial programming to activate it, the phone jumped straight into 3G, and hasn't left it since.

Sending a TXT will drop it to 1x, as expected, but the phone goes right back into 3G. A speed test from DSLReports pulled down 2300kbps.

That's amazing throughput! Is that tethered or using the mobile version of DSL report speed test? On the mobile version I peak at about 900kbps, and average around 650-900 when I run the following speed test in Opera:

http://www.inetworktest.com/wired

I'm not sure if it's a result of Verizon working on my trouble ticket, or if I've just been lucky, but i haven't had the 1X stuck problem since Sunday afternoon.

DSL Reports mobile speed test. I've been scared to hack the tethering since I was thrown back into 1x after doing it on my old phone. But I'll give it a try and see.

Was the replacement phone for the 1x/EV/3G problem or something else?
